Goldmund Redefines Flagship Power With the Telos 9800

Swiss monoblock delivers 1560 watts and a new two-chassis design language, priced from CHF 400,000 per unit

Goldmund has pulled back the curtain on the Goldmund Telos 9800, a new flagship mono power amplifier the Swiss manufacturer calls its most advanced creation to date. Building on the Telos 8800 launched in 2023, the Goldmund Telos 9800 introduces an entirely new amplification platform, a redesigned enclosure and a power output that pushes past 1,500 watts per channel, moving it above both the Telos 8800 and the recently launched “midrange” Telos 4800 in Goldmund’s lineup.

Inside the Goldmund Telos 9800’s Two-Chassis Design

Rather than cramming power supply and amplification into one box, the Goldmund Telos 9800 separates the two functions across a pair of physically distinct but interconnected enclosures. Goldmund says the split lets each section operate under optimal conditions while reinforcing the amplifier’s mechanical and electrical integrity. Developed together with designer Cécile Barani, the two-part shell mirrors that internal architecture: precision-machined aluminum panels, a redesigned digital display and a single gold-plated plate at the seam between the units, a quiet signature Goldmund says “reveals itself gradually to those who choose to look more closely.” Every panel is micro-blasted and anodized, available in grey or black, with gold-plated copper terminals and screws used throughout to protect signal transmission and minimise losses.

1,560 Watts From an Entirely New Platform

Inside, the Goldmund Telos 9800 pairs a next-generation MOSFET output stage with a newly developed SoftStart circuit, larger transformers and deeper energy reserves than any previous Telos amplifier. Goldmund’s proprietary power-management system combines roughly 10 kVA of transformer capacity with a 648 mF capacitor bank, the largest the company has fitted to an amplifier to date. The result is 1,560 Wrms into 8 ohms, a damping factor of 900 at 1 kHz, and total harmonic distortion below 0.005% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Goldmund specifies the amplifier as stable into loads as low as 1 ohm, with gain adjustable in 3 dB steps and comprehensive thermal and short-circuit protection built into a fully symmetrical, fully analog signal path from input to output.

Built to Partner With Goldmund’s Own Speakers

The Goldmund Telos 9800 accepts both analog inputs (XLR and RCA) and a digital input, alongside dual speaker binding posts and Goldmund’s proprietary 4B speaker connector, an RS232 port for system integration and diagnostics, and a 12V trigger input for remote power control. At roughly 360 kg and 50 x 136.7 x 50 cm per monoblock, it is unmistakably built to anchor a serious system, and Goldmund positions its own passive loudspeakers, including the Rhea and Theia models already featured on this site, as the most direct partner for that ambition.

Pricing and availability

The Goldmund Telos 9800 is priced at CHF 400,000 per monoblock, roughly €430,000, $500,000 or £370,000, positioning it firmly above both the Telos 8800 and the Telos 4800 in Goldmund’s amplifier range. The amplifier is available now through Goldmund’s dealer network in grey or black finishes; interested buyers should contact an authorized distributor for lead times.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
