Swiss manufacturer Goldmund continues to develop its flagship preamplifier, the Mimesis Reference, built around Class A output stage drivers that the brand says guarantee the lowest possible Total Harmonic Distortion and Intermodulation Distortion. The Goldmund Mimesis Reference analogue preamplifier is aimed at buyers who want the cleanest possible signal path ahead of a Goldmund power amplifier such as the Telos 9800.
A Power Supply Rebuilt From the Ground Up
Goldmund has completely redesigned the Mimesis Reference’s power supply, splitting it into separate analogue and digital circuits, each driven by custom audio-grade transformers. Every side of the preamplifier, left and right, gets its own dedicated power supply to improve channel separation, while an additional separate supply is reserved purely for the digital section. Goldmund says this is intended to guarantee an extraordinarily stable sonic power supply for the audio drivers, with the heat sink crafted in-house to maximise surface area and dissipate heat efficiently.

CNC-Machined Cooling for Every Op-Amp
Extensive work has gone into the Mimesis Reference’s audio board, including a new shielding design that doubles as a heat sink. Each low-noise op-amp on the board has its own custom heat sink, precision machined from a single piece of aluminium to establish direct mechanical contact between each op-amp and the dissipator. Goldmund describes this as the best available cooling capability for the audio circuitry, aimed at keeping performance consistent under sustained use.

A New Design Language, Since 2023
Since 2023, the Mimesis Reference has carried a visionary new design language for Goldmund, with a ‘no-screw-design’ top panel and side panels that draw on the brand’s active speaker range. The mechanical enclosure uses a heightened panel structure with parts now 12mm thick for added durability. The Goldmund Mimesis Reference doubles as what the brand calls an elegant jewellery box, finished in classic silver grey or matte black, with buyers able to choose a gold or box-matching top-left front ring depending on market and availability.

Pricing and availability
Goldmund does not publish pricing for the Mimesis Reference analogue preamplifier directly; availability, pricing and lead times vary per finish and market, and interested buyers are encouraged to contact their local Goldmund dealer. Full technical documentation is available via Goldmund’s own website.
