French manufacturer Triangle has expanded its Borea range with the Borea BR05, a retro-chic bookshelf speaker designed to bridge the gap between vintage styling and modern engineering. Built as a generous entry point into Triangle’s high-fidelity sound, the Triangle Borea BR05 pairs the range’s signature EFS tweeter with a brand-new 21cm cellulose pulp midwoofer developed specifically for this model.
A New Driver, Tuned for Midrange
Rather than chasing maximum bass output, Triangle says much of the development work on the Borea BR05’s new 21cm driver focused on midrange quality, since that is what it considers essential to the speaker’s musicality. The natural cellulose pulp cone, familiar from across the Borea range, is paired with a reworked dust cap and cone profile aimed at balancing impact with finesse. An openwork motor structure, based on development work from the larger BR10, improves airflow around the voice coil for better heat dissipation, while a copper demodulation ring in the motor is said to reduce distortion at higher volumes.

Dual Ports and a Reinforced Cabinet
The Borea BR05 cabinet is built from high-density MDF panels up to 21mm thick, with two additional internal reinforcements intended to reduce resonance at high listening volumes. Triangle’s DVAS architecture helps dissipate mechanical energy and reduce vibrations transmitted to the cabinet. Because the long-excursion 21cm driver moves a large volume of air, Triangle opted for a dual bass-reflex port rather than a single vent, spreading airflow over a larger surface to reduce turbulence and improve bass clarity at higher volumes. The Triangle Borea BR05 is a 2-way design with a 1,700Hz crossover point, a sensitivity of 90dB and a frequency response of 42Hz to 22kHz.

Five Retro-Styled Finishes
Triangle offers the Borea BR05 in five finishes – Green, Light Oak, Chestnut, Black Ash and Frosted White – each combining a wood-effect cabinet with a plain, two-tone front baffle and matching driver trim rings. A magnetic fabric grille protects the drivers day to day and lifts off to reveal the BR05’s full retro character. The speaker is recommended for rooms between 10 and 45 square metres, and ships with a double terminal block for bi-wiring or bi-amping. Triangle’s own Solstice range, reviewed previously on this site, shows the same drive toward combining the brand’s traditional sound signature with new engineering.

Pricing and availability
The Triangle Borea BR05 is priced at $859 a pair and is available now in all five finishes directly from Triangle’s own website and through its reseller network. An optional S03 stand, with an 8-degree tilt for optimised listening, is sold separately in black or white.
