The “Before you go” newsletter invitation that appears when you move your mouse to leave the page does not set a cookie. It uses your browser’s localStorage to remember, under the name boh_exit_popup_last_shown, that you have already seen it, so it is not shown again for 7 days. This is not a cookie and is not sent to our server.
Analytics cookies (only with your consent)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site, so we can improve it. These cookies are only placed if you accept statistics via our cookie banner. Before you make a choice, Google’s tag is loaded with Google Consent Mode set to denied: it is present on the page but is not allowed to read or write anything on your device, and it sends no measurement data. If you refuse, it stays that way. If you accept, the signal is switched to granted and measurement begins.

Advertising cookies
We do not use advertising cookies. Our advertising system runs on our own server, sets no cookies, and loads nothing from third parties. It does keep a short-lived log on the server containing your IP address, so that the same visitor is not counted twice for the same ad. That log, and how long we keep it, are described in our Privacy Policy.
Third-party content cookies
Articles with a video show a placeholder instead of the video itself. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you either accept marketing cookies in the banner or click “Watch this video” on that placeholder. We embed through youtube-nocookie.com, which does not set cookies merely by loading the player; if you then play the video, YouTube may set its own cookies, governed by their privacy policy. Clicking the placeholder stores one cookie of ours (cmplz_consented_services, 365 days) so you do not have to repeat the choice for other videos.
Our Instagram feed shows images that are copied to our own server, so browsing it sends nothing to Instagram. Only when you click through to Instagram itself does their own policy apply.
Managing your cookie preferences
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect how parts of the site work.
