A Record Launch for Samsung’s Foldable Lineup
Samsung has confirmed that its Galaxy Z8 series, comprising the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, has delivered the strongest European sales performance of any Galaxy Z generation to date. According to figures shared by Samsung Newsroom, European sell-through for the Galaxy Z8 lineup rose by 45% compared with the previous Galaxy Z7 series over the same post-launch period, placing the new foldables ahead of every prior Fold and Flip release in the region.
The milestone arrives as foldable phones continue to move from niche curiosity to mainstream purchase, with Samsung crediting a combination of refined hardware, a lighter and thinner chassis, and a deeper suite of on-device AI tools for the jump in demand.
Search Interest Surges Across the Region
Beyond direct sales, Samsung also pointed to a sharp rise in online interest surrounding the launch. Search traffic for the Galaxy Z Fold8 climbed by as much as 260% in several European markets in the weeks following release, while interest in the more compact Galaxy Z Flip8 rose by up to 460% over the same window, according to Samsung’s internal data. The company attributes the spike to a combination of pre-order campaigns, carrier promotions, and word-of-mouth around the devices’ redesigned hinge and slimmer folded profile.
Retail partners across the UK, Germany, and France reported similar patterns, with in-store demonstrations of the Z Fold8’s tablet-like unfolded display and the Z Flip8’s compact form factor translating into higher conversion rates than previous generations. The trend echoes what Samsung has also seen on the refurbished side of its lineup, where Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program on Amazon has widened access to older Galaxy flagships for budget-conscious buyers, feeding broader demand across the Galaxy ecosystem.
AI Features Driving the Appeal
A significant part of the Galaxy Z8 series’ pitch centers on Samsung’s expanded Galaxy AI suite. New additions include Now Brief, which compiles a personalized daily summary of calendar events, weather, and relevant notifications, and Now Nudge, a contextual assistant that surfaces timely suggestions based on a user’s location and habits. Both features are built on deeper integration with Google’s Gemini models, giving the Z8 series more conversational and proactive AI capabilities than earlier Galaxy Z phones.
Samsung says these AI tools are designed specifically around the foldable form factor, with Now Brief and Now Nudge making use of the Z Fold8’s larger inner display for at-a-glance information without requiring the phone to be fully unfolded. Samsung has also continued refining its camera processing pipeline for the Z8 series, with improved low-light performance on the main sensor and faster autofocus when switching between the inner and outer displays mid-shot, both frequently cited by early reviewers as meaningful upgrades over the Z7 generation.
A Wider Color and Configuration Range
The Galaxy Z Fold8 launched in four core colorways, including Lavender, Graphite, and Cream, with a Pistachio option available through Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores. The broader color range, paired with configuration options up to 1TB of storage, has given Samsung more flexibility to target both mainstream buyers and premium customers within a single generation, likely contributing to the series’ broader European appeal.
What It Means for the Foldable Market
The Galaxy Z8 series’ European performance underscores a broader shift in how foldable phones are being received by mainstream consumers. Where earlier Fold and Flip generations were often positioned as early-adopter devices, Samsung’s latest figures suggest the category is now competing more directly with conventional flagship phones for everyday buyers. With rivals also expanding their own foldable lineups, Samsung’s record European results for the Z8 series set a high bar heading into the next generation, and will likely shape how aggressively competitors price and market their own folding phones over the coming year.
