The Dual CP 707 is the first standalone phono preamplifier in the long history of the German turntable brand. Dual has shown the CP 707 as an early prototype, with a fully balanced JFET circuit, balanced XLR connections and a single input that handles both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Sales are planned for the second quarter of 2027, at an expected price of around €900.
From turntables to the rest of the analogue chain
For decades, the name Dual has been tied to record players. With the Dual CP 707 the company takes a step beyond the turntable itself and turns its attention to another essential link in the analogue chain: the phono stage. According to Dual, the CP 707 is the logical next step for a brand that has always been about vinyl playback.
The single input works with both MM and MC cartridges. Selectable settings allow the Dual CP 707 to be matched to a wide range of cartridges and turntables, so it is not limited to Dual’s own decks. On the front panel of the prototype we see four gain positions, two for MC (66 dB and 60 dB) and two for MM (46 dB and 40 dB).

Dual CP 707: a fully balanced circuit against interference
A phono signal is tiny, which makes it very sensitive to outside interference. Dual says it paid special attention to protecting that signal. The current prototype of the Dual CP 707 uses a fully balanced signal path, modern JFET amplification with high EMI immunity and a shielded steel chassis.
That approach reflects how much the electrical environment around a hi-fi system has changed. Wi-Fi routers, smartphones and switching power supplies are everywhere today, and all of them can introduce unwanted noise into delicate analogue signals. A balanced design rejects much of that noise before it reaches the amplifier.

Balanced XLR and RCA connections
Around the back, the Dual CP 707 offers balanced XLR inputs and outputs next to conventional RCA connections. That makes it easy to use with a turntable that has a balanced tonearm cable, and with amplifiers that offer balanced inputs. Owners of a more traditional setup can simply stick to RCA.
Two practical features complete the package: a switchable subsonic filter to keep rumble and warp-induced low-frequency energy away from your loudspeakers, and an automatic muting circuit that suppresses switching noise. On the front, the subsonic filter and the automute status each get their own indicator.

Still a prototype
Dual is clear that the CP 707 is still in development. Final specifications, measurements, design details and the price will be announced closer to the start of series production. The production version will be presented around the High End show in Vienna in 2027.
Pricing and availability
The Dual CP 707 is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2027. The expected price is around €900, but that figure is not yet final. More information is available on the Dual website.
