Fosi Audio has turned the clickwheel MP3 player into a Hi-Res audio device with the launch of the Fosi Audio DAP Neo, a $79.99 pocket player built around a CS43198 DAC and a full-metal body that borrows its silhouette straight from the early 2000s. Where most portable audio launches chase streaming integration, the Fosi Audio DAP Neo deliberately leaves it out: no apps, no feed, no notifications — just a scroll wheel, a screen, and a microSD slot.
A Clickwheel for the Post-Streaming Generation
The Fosi Audio DAP Neo leans fully into its “modern classic” positioning. The tactile scroll wheel and side-mounted buttons are a direct nod to the first wave of dedicated MP3 players, finished with a micron-etched AG glass front and a five-axis CNC-machined metal housing. Fosi Audio ships the player in two finishes, Galaxy and Obsidian, each available with either 16GB or 64GB of onboard storage that expands up to 256GB via microSD.

Fosi Audio is positioning the DAP Neo as a deliberate break from the always-on habits of a phone. The company’s own marketing leans hard into that framing: “music doesn’t need a feed, it needs a moment.” Whether that resonates will depend on the buyer, but the hardware underneath backs up the pitch with real Hi-Res specifications rather than just a retro shell.
Hi-Res Sound Without the Phone
Underneath the retro shell, the Fosi Audio DAP Neo is built for sound quality rather than nostalgia alone. A single CS43198 DAC chip drives a 3.5mm single-ended output rated at 129mW with a 127dB signal-to-noise ratio, and the player supports MP3, FLAC, WAV, APE, M4A and DSD files for genuine lossless playback. A 2.4-inch TFT display (320×240) handles navigation, while Bluetooth with SBC and the 3.5mm jack cover wired and wireless listening. Fosi Audio rates the battery at up to 12 hours of continuous playback, and the player ships with two screen protectors, a USB charging/data cable and a printed manual in the box.

Pricing and availability
The Fosi Audio DAP Neo is available now directly from Fosi Audio, starting at $79.99 for the 16GB Galaxy or Obsidian version and $119.99 for the 64GB version. Fosi Audio also offers “Combo” bundles that pair the player with accessories, priced at $179.99 (16GB) and $219.99 (64GB).
