French high-end specialist Kalista, part of the Métronome Technologie manufacture, has introduced the DreamPlay S, a dedicated streaming transport built entirely by hand in France. Positioned as a music-only source rather than a jack-of-all-trades network player, the Kalista DreamPlay S is designed to hand its digital output to an external DAC with as little compromise as possible along the way.
A sanctuary built purely for streaming
Kalista describes the DreamPlay S as a “streaming sanctuary,” and the product brief backs that framing: rather than bundling in a volume control, headphone stage or built-in DAC, the Kalista DreamPlay S dedicates its entire architecture to retrieving and delivering a digital audio stream as cleanly as possible. That includes support for PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit and native DSD up to DSD256, fed out through a choice of S/PDIF, AES/EBU or I2S digital outputs, letting owners route the signal to whichever external DAC already anchors their system.

Streaming integrations built in
The Kalista DreamPlay S ships with a wide net of streaming protocol support, including Roon Ready certification, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Deezer and Qobuz Connect, the latter creating a direct server-to-player link that bypasses a smartphone entirely. It also carries MQA rendering and is certified for use with Audirvāna, giving owners several different software paths into the same transport depending on how they prefer to manage their library. Dual-band WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet and a USB 2.0 port for external storage round out the connectivity, echoing the network-first approach taken by transports like the Ferrum BROEN, another dedicated streaming transport designed to feed an outboard DAC rather than convert digital to analogue itself.

Hand-built in two finishes
True to Kalista’s positioning above sister brand Métronome, the Kalista DreamPlay S is offered in two finishes, Black Pearl and Diamond, each hand-finished within the French manufacture. Optional accessories include a dedicated anti-vibration silent base and a classic tripod stand, both aimed at further isolating the transport from mechanical noise in the listening room. Weighing up to 14kg depending on configuration, the Kalista DreamPlay S is built with the same obsessive attention to materials that Kalista applies across its DreamPlay range.
