Building a JBL multi-room system no longer means committing to a house full of speakers on day one. In a new feature on its newsroom, JBL explains how its Cove range is designed to start small — with a single speaker in the room used most — and expand whenever the owner is ready. The three-model line-up, which reached stores on 8 October 2026, spans an affordable entry point, a portable Dolby Atmos speaker, and a flagship model built for larger spaces.
Building a JBL multi-room system, one speaker at a time
For anyone considering a whole-home or multi-room setup, JBL Cove offers a flexible way in. Speakers can be used individually, paired in stereo, or grouped together to create a connected audio system as needs grow. Every model in the range tunes itself automatically to its surroundings, so placement is less of a science project and more a matter of finding a spare shelf or sideboard. Across the line-up, JBL’s Constant Sound Field technology keeps sound balanced throughout a room, while AI Sound Boost helps limit distortion when the volume climbs. All three speakers share a 2-way design and a full set of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect.

From compact to flagship: the Cove line-up
The JBL Cove M1 is the entry point into the range — compact enough for smaller rooms, but still delivering clear, balanced sound from a single unit, with the option to add more speakers later. The JBL Cove P1 brings battery-powered freedom to the family, pairing up to 14 hours of portable playback with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, so it can move between the garden and the living room without leaving the wider system. At the top sits the JBL Cove X1, the flagship model, with four tweeters and dual woofers delivering powerful, room-filling audio with Dolby Atmos for the biggest spaces in the house.

Managing it all through the JBL One app
The system is tied together through the JBL One app, where speakers can be grouped to play the same music throughout the house, or left ungrouped to stream independently in a single room without resetting anything. JBL’s pitch is simple: start with the compact Cove M1, choose the portable Cove P1, or go straight for the powerful Cove X1, then add more speakers to the group whenever the moment — and the budget — allows.
