Esoteric has introduced the N-01XE, a new network player/DAC that carries the two core technologies of its flagship Grandioso N1 into a more attainable model. The Esoteric N-01XE pairs the “Master Sound Discrete DAC G2” with the “Esoteric Network Engine G4,” bringing flagship-level digital conversion and streaming to a smaller chassis. The product will be available for international shipment from the beginning of November 2026.
Flagship Technology in a More Compact Chassis
Esoteric built the N-01XE around the same core architecture as the Grandioso N1, its reference network player/DAC. That means the same discrete DAC design philosophy and the same network streaming engine, rather than a simplified derivative aimed at a lower price point. The result is a network player/DAC that Esoteric positions as a genuine entry point into its flagship sound, not just a lifestyle streamer with premium branding.
A New-Generation Discrete DAC and Network Engine
At the heart of the N-01XE is the Master Sound Discrete DAC G2, a new-generation FPGA-based multi-level ΔΣ D/A converter fully designed and manufactured in-house using precisely selected discrete components rather than off-the-shelf DAC chipsets. It uses a proprietary 64-bit/512-Fs ΔΣ modulator, independently optimised processing algorithms for DSD and PCM, and a redesigned power supply that separates FPGA lines from hot and cold analog power lines. The 4th-generation Esoteric Network Engine G4 supports native DSD 22.5 MHz playback and adds a new SFP optical network port, both new to this XE edition.
Five Independent Power Supplies and Meticulous Build Quality
Five independent linear power supplies feed the dual-mono DACs, network section, digital audio circuitry and microcomputer separately, paired with a low-feedback discrete DC power regulator for a more open, dynamic sound. A multi-layer chassis prevents interference between circuit components, while a semi-floating top panel and advanced isolation feet are tuned to enhance sonic openness and soundstage focus. Esoteric’s proprietary ES-Link Analog current-transmission link connects to compatible preamplifiers, and ES-Link5 offers an ultra-wideband HDMI-style link to an Esoteric SACD transport. A Master Sound Discrete Clock and 10MHz sync compatibility with Esoteric’s G-01XD and G-05 master clocks round out the timing side of the design.
Broad Connectivity and Streaming Support
Digital inputs cover ES-Link5, USB, XLR, coax and optical, alongside a music server function for USB storage playback. Supported file formats include DSF, DSDIFF, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MQA, MP3 and AAC, and streaming service support spans Tidal, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Qobuz Connect, Roon, Spotify and QQ Music. The Esoteric Sound Stream App handles day-to-day operation from a smartphone or tablet.
Pricing and availability
The N-01XE ships internationally from the beginning of November 2026, priced at $28,000 in the US, €26,500 in the EU and £22,999 in the UK.
