The Auer Acoustics Versura V4 is the German brand’s flagship floorstander, a 4-way closed-box tower built around a cabinet material the company borrows from a decidedly non-audio world: tankwood. Sold as the range-topper of Auer’s four-model Versura line, the Versura V4 is now making its way to the US market through an appointment-only showcase with dealer Musical Artisans of Chicago, following its debut at AXPONA 2025.
Tankwood: An Unusual Choice for an Unusually Rigid Cabinet
Every Versura cabinet is built from tankwood, a natural wood compressed under extreme pressure with phenolic resin until its fibers rearrange at a molecular level, increasing density and homogeneity while preserving internal damping. The material, sometimes known as Panzerholz in engineering circles, is more commonly found in anti-vibration platforms, turntable plinths and applications where structural failure isn’t an option. Auer’s pitch is that a cabinet built entirely from it stops contributing its own resonance to the sound, giving the Versura V4’s drivers a essentially inert platform rather than a “box” coloring the music.
A Slim Tower With a Side-Mounted 12-Inch Woofer
Auer Acoustics Versura V4 runs a genuine 4-way configuration: a 34mm Beryllium dome tweeter, a 5-inch midrange, a 7-inch bass-midrange driver and a 12-inch woofer, reaching down to a claimed 20Hz and up to 40kHz (both at +/-3dB). The woofer’s side-mounted placement is what keeps the Versura V4’s front baffle slim despite the closed-box cabinet housing four drivers, while still delivering what Auer describes as deep, dynamic bass without the port noise or bloat associated with reflex-loaded designs. Sensitivity is rated at 90dB and the cabinet accepts up to 200 watts, with bi-wiring available as an option.
Isolation and Crossover Details Built to the Same Standard
Auer extends the same obsessiveness to how the Auer Acoustics Versura V4 meets the floor. A CNC-milled solid aluminum base sits atop stainless steel feet, with the whole assembly balanced on three points and coupled through ceramic balls to maximize contact pressure on a minimal surface area, aimed at resonance-free bass regardless of the flooring underneath. Inside, the crossover uses Mundorf’s silver/gold/oil SESGO capacitors alongside Jantzen components, wired internally with high-silver-content cable from Van den Hul, all individually measured and matched for minimal tolerances before assembly.
The Versura V4 tops a four-model range that also includes the 3-way V2 floorstander, the 3-way V1 standmount and the 2-way V0 bookshelf, all built from the same tankwood and offered in the same finish palette. It’s a similar “materials-first” approach to cabinet building that other boutique European speaker brands take, just applied to a very different, denser substrate. Pricing and availability
According to Auer’s own price sheet, the Auer Acoustics Versura V4 is priced at €44,038 per pair in Europe; pricing varies by finish and options such as stands, upgraded capacitors, bi-amp cabling and a diamond tweeter upgrade. US pricing has not yet been announced, with Musical Artisans of Chicago serving as Auer’s lead American dealer.
