ASCENDO Rethinks the On-Wall Speaker With Panoramic Surface Technology

The Panoramic Surface On-Wall debuts at CEDIA Expo 2026 with a full-range composite radiating surface for immersive cinema

The ASCENDO Panoramic Surface On-Wall loudspeaker

ASCENDO Immersive Audio is bringing a genuinely new loudspeaker concept to CEDIA Expo 2026: the ASCENDO Panoramic Surface On-Wall, an architectural speaker built around a proprietary full-range composite radiating surface instead of a conventional driver-and-waveguide layout. The German brand will debut the technology in Sound Room 10, alongside partners including Christie, madVR Labs, StormAudio and Moovia.

Panoramic Surface targets a problem that has shaped loudspeaker design for decades: as frequency rises, sound naturally beams into a narrower pattern. Conventional cone drivers, dome tweeters and waveguides can manage that behaviour but never eliminate it, which is especially limiting for surround and height channels, where a wide, even coverage area across multiple seats matters more than pinpoint imaging from one sweet spot.

How the ASCENDO Panoramic Surface spreads its sound

Instead of angling enclosures or adapting stereo drivers for surround duty, the ASCENDO Panoramic Surface behaves less like a conventional loudspeaker at high frequencies and more like a controlled acoustic surface. ASCENDO says the radiating surface extends coverage to nearly 180 degrees, all the way up to 20 kHz, so a listener seated close to a surround or height channel does not get hit with the sudden loudness spike that a directional driver would produce. That, in turn, gives installers more freedom to place seats near individual channels without introducing level imbalance.

Built to sit flush against the architecture

Because the Panoramic Surface panel is designed to operate close to the wall or ceiling it is mounted on, ASCENDO says the design also reduces front-boundary SBIR, the comb-filtering interference that typically results from angled or off-surface loudspeaker placement. Rather than fighting the room’s boundaries, the panel is meant to integrate with them, which fits ASCENDO’s broader approach of engineering loudspeakers as part of a complete cinema environment rather than as isolated boxes bolted onto a wall.

“Panoramic Surface follows a principle that has always driven ASCENDO: we don’t take an existing loudspeaker concept and force it into an application it was never designed to serve,” said Geoffrey Heinzel, Co-Managing Partner of ASCENDO. “We start with what the acoustic environment actually requires and engineer the solution around those demands.” The result, ASCENDO says, is a more coherent, less seat-dependent immersive experience across an entire room rather than just one reference chair.

ASCENDO will demonstrate the Panoramic Surface On-Wall as part of a scalable, luxury home cinema build in Sound Room 10, integrated with systems from AcustiMOD, Christie, madVR Labs, Moovia, StormAudio and Seymour-Screen Excellence. Readers who want more on the surrounding CEDIA showcase can revisit our CEDIA Expo 2026 Sound Room 10 coverage, and more on ASCENDO’s wider lineup is available on the official ASCENDO Immersive Audio website.

His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
