Technics has introduced the Technics SL-1210MKX, a new flagship professional direct-drive DJ turntable that builds on the SL-1200 series with a heavier, better-isolated chassis, an expanded pitch control range, and a number of refinements developed with input from working DJs and sound engineers. Priced at $1,899, the Technics SL-1210MKX sits above the existing SL-1210MK7 and is aimed at professional clubs, touring and live performance.
Technics SL-1210MKX: A Heavier, Better-Isolated Chassis
The Technics SL-1210MKX introduces a significantly heavier, balanced chassis designed to resist external vibration more effectively than the MK7 platform, paired with newly developed isolation feet intended to reduce mechanical energy reaching the turntable. Technics has not disclosed the exact additional chassis weight or published comparative isolation figures, but the added mass is aimed squarely at club and live environments where vibration travels through stages and DJ booths and can interfere with cartridge tracking. For touring DJs and installers who move equipment between venues on a weekly basis, that extra stability is arguably as important as any single spec on the sheet.

Four Pitch Ranges, From Precise to Extreme
For the first time in the SL-1200 series, the Technics SL-1210MKX adds a dedicated ±4% pitch range for finer tempo matching during transitions, alongside the existing ±8% and ±16% ranges. At the opposite end, a new ±50% range gives turntablists considerably more room for experimental mixing and manipulating playback speed. The familiar coreless direct-drive motor carries over with adjustable start-up torque and brake speed, along with reverse playback and 78rpm support. The reset switch has also been redesigned for quieter operation, taking a cue from earlier SL-1200 models.
Classic Styling, Practical Refinements
Visually, the Technics SL-1210MKX nods to the SL-1200MK2 of 1979, with a black cabinet and polished silver tonearm. It adds an anti-glare stylus light and a larger phono ground terminal designed to make setup easier to tighten and remove securely. Technics says the “X” designation stands for “Extreme” and “Expert” — a deliberate contrast with the gold-accented anniversary editions the brand has released in recent years, none of which were aimed specifically at working DJs.
Specifications and Pricing Compared to the SL-1210MK7
The Technics SL-1210MKX weighs 11.9kg against the MK7’s 9.6kg, while sharing the same 169 x 453 x 353mm footprint, aluminium diecast platter and 0.7-second start-up to 33-1/3rpm. Its variable pitch range spans ±4%, ±8%, ±16% and ±50%, compared with ±8% and ±16% on the MK7. The Technics SL-1210MKX is priced at $1,899.99 (£1,299 / €1,499), against $1,299.99 for the SL-1210MK7 — a premium that buyers will need to weigh against how much the added isolation and pitch flexibility matter to their own setup.
Debut and Availability
The Technics SL-1210MKX makes its public debut on 21 October 2026 at Amsterdam Dance Event, with further appearances planned at the Paris Audio Video Show and the Poland Audio Video Show. First units are expected at select Technics retailers by January 2027. Full specifications and regional pricing are available on Technics’ official website.
