Kind of product?

The Technics SL-40CBTFH is a compact, direct-drive Bluetooth turntable built around the same coreless direct-drive motor system used in the standard SL-40CBT. It ships with a built-in phono equalizer and cartridge, so it plays vinyl straight out of the box, either through a wired line-level connection or streamed wirelessly to a Bluetooth speaker or pair of headphones.

Brand?

Technics is Panasonic’s audio brand, the name behind the direct-drive SL-1200 that shaped DJ culture for five decades and, more recently, the SL-1200 55th-anniversary Gold Edition. For this collaboration, Technics partnered with Fritz Hansen, the Danish furniture and lighting house behind design icons like the Series 7 chair and the Kaiser Idell desk lamp, to give its most accessible turntable a design-led limited run.

Current price?

The Technics SL-40CBTFH is priced at €999 in Europe, identical to the standard SL-40CBT. US pricing has not yet been confirmed, though it will likely sit above the $899.99 asked for the regular model. Only 300 units will be made available worldwide, sold through Fritz Hansen’s partner stores and Technics’ own retail channels, with shipping set for October 2026.

What’s in the box?

Each Technics SL-40CBTFH ships in a deep burgundy finish across its plinth and cartridge headshell, with a metal Technics x Fritz Hansen nameplate set into the plinth. In place of the standard felt mat, it includes a dedicated slipmat carrying the Fritz Hansen name, the pre-fitted Technics cartridge, a traditional S-shaped tonearm, and the usual power supply and cabling for a wired setup.

Features?

  • Coreless direct-drive motor: the same high-precision, low-vibration drive system used in the standard SL-40CBT.
  • Built-in Bluetooth: streams vinyl wirelessly to speakers or headphones, no separate transmitter required.
  • Built-in phono equalizer and cartridge: connects straight to a line-level input, no external phono stage needed.
  • S-shaped tonearm: the tonearm geometry Technics has used across its turntable range for accurate groove tracking.
  • Fritz Hansen slipmat and nameplate: the two visible details that separate this edition from the standard model.

Key Specifications

  • Drive system: Coreless direct drive
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, built-in phono equalizer
  • Tonearm: Static-balance S-shaped tonearm
  • Dimensions: 430 x 128 x 353mm (W x H x D)
  • Weight: 7.1kg
  • Price: €999
  • Availability: 300 units worldwide, from October 2026

The SL-40CBTFH keeps the compact footprint of the standard SL-40CBT

Closer look?

The Technics SL-40CBT’s keeps a compact footprint but swaps the wood-effect finishes of the standard model for a single, deep burgundy lacquer that Fritz Hansen has used across its own furniture and lighting. The pairing looks deliberate rather than decorative: Fritz Hansen’s Kaiser Idell lamp shares a near-identical shade of red, and the brand’s lettering on the slipmat is the only typographic element on an otherwise minimal deck.

The traditional S-shaped tonearm is carried over from the standard SL-40CBT

For whom is this product?

The Technics SL-40CBTFH targets the same buyer as the standard SL-40CBT: someone who wants a genuinely simple, wireless-first entry into vinyl, without a separate phono stage or amplifier. What the Fritz Hansen edition adds is a design angle for buyers who care as much about how a turntable looks on a shelf as how it sounds, and who are drawn to limited runs of only 300 units.

Conclusion?

On the numbers, the Technics SL-40CBTFH is not a technical step up from the standard SL-40CBT: it is the same coreless direct-drive turntable, the same Bluetooth connectivity, the same €999 price. What it adds is a considered design collaboration and genuine scarcity, which will matter more to some buyers than others. Anyone who already likes the SL-40CBT and wants a more distinctive finish has a clear reason to choose it once it ships in October.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
