The company says the lithium-ion battery inside the YOYO (M) can overheat and go into thermal runaway, creating a risk of fire, smoke, burns and property damage – including while the speaker is charging.
Cambridge Audio YOYO M: Which Units Are Affected
Cambridge Audio says the recall covers every YOYO (M) ever sold, regardless of purchase date or serial number, across all three colourways: Dark Grey (C10931), Light Grey (C10930) and Blue (C10965). There is no way to identify an exempt unit – the company is treating all units as affected. The Cambridge Audio YOYO M was sold between 2016 and 2022 for roughly $172 to $218 per boxed pair, through Cambridge Audio directly, major retailers, Amazon and eBay in the US, and equivalent channels elsewhere.
What Cambridge Audio Is Asking Owners to Do
The company is asking anyone with a Cambridge Audio YOYO M to stop using it immediately, disconnect it from power, and not attempt to charge, repair or open the unit. Cambridge Audio also asks owners not to dispose of the speaker in household waste or ordinary recycling, and not to post or courier it back unprompted, since lithium-ion batteries need specialist handling. Cambridge Audio says the product passed the applicable safety standards when it was designed and manufactured, but a small number of serious reports years later prompted the precautionary recall.
