When the Cambridge Audio L/R Series was first announced back in January, the range existed mostly on paper: three active, streaming-ready stereo pairs promising floorstander-like scale from stand-mount cabinets. Six months on, that promise is starting to arrive on shelves – just not all at once. Two of the three Cambridge Audio L/R Series models are now genuinely shipping, while the middle model in the range is still asking buyers to wait.
Cambridge Audio L/R Series: X and S Are Now in Stock
The flagship of the range, L/R X, and the compact L/R S at the entry point are both confirmed in stock with authorised dealers, having moved from “coming soon” to “add to cart” over the past several weeks. The L/R X pairs a 28mm Torus tweeter with twin 5-inch woofers and matching passive radiators per cabinet, drawing on 800W of combined Class D power, and adds a built-in phono stage, HDMI eARC and Cambridge’s StreamMagic Gen 4 streaming platform – Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Roon Ready and AirPlay 2 among them. At the other end, the L/R S strips things back to a single 3-inch woofer and 21mm tweeter per cabinet, drops the streaming board entirely, and leans on Bluetooth aptX HD as its primary connection – a compact desktop pair rather than a living-room system.
L/R M Remains the Series’ Waiting Game
The mid-tier L/R M, sitting between the two on paper, is the outlier: still listed as pre-order only, with authorised dealers now quoting September shipping rather than the July window Cambridge had originally suggested. It carries a scaled-down version of the X’s feature set – the same 28mm tweeter, smaller 4-inch woofers, 300W combined power and the same StreamMagic streaming platform – but for now it remains the one L/R Series speaker you can order but not yet own.
All three models share the same underlying design language – a two-box, true left/right stereo pair rather than Cambridge’s earlier single-cabinet Evo One, finished in a common palette of Black, White, Blue, Green, Orange and a real walnut veneer option. That shared identity is easiest to see across the finish options; the L/R X we previously covered in Cambridge Audio’s original L/R Series announcement looks and sounds different again in this Blue finish shown below.

Early listening impressions from What Hi-Fi described the L/R X as “clear, texturally detailed” with an ability to “go surprisingly loud,” while flagging a touch of treble hardness in pre-production units that Cambridge has since addressed with tuning updates. The smaller L/R S, already fully reviewed, was praised for sounding “nice and even… across the frequencies” without being the most punchy or precise option at its price.
