Stromtank has placed a new flagship at the top of its lineup with the S-6000 Alpha, a battery-powered “power tank” built to feed the most demanding high-end systems with completely isolated, grid-independent AC power. The Berlin company positions the Stromtank S-6000 Alpha as its uncompromising reference: designed for systems where every other component has already been engineered without compromise, and where the power feeding them deserves the same treatment.
Stromtank S-6000 Alpha: Power From a Battery, Not the Wall
The idea behind any Stromtank unit is straightforward even if the engineering is not: rather than filtering or conditioning the AC power coming from the wall, the S-6000 Alpha stores energy in an onboard battery and generates its own clean sine wave from that reserve, isolating connected components from grid noise, voltage sag, and everything else riding along a typical household mains supply. The Stromtank S-6000 Alpha carries that approach further than any model below it in the range, aimed specifically at particularly power-hungry components, whether that means a pair of current-hungry monoblocks or a rack of sensitive source components that all deserve the cleanest possible supply.
Battery, Inverter and Transfer Speed
At the core of the Stromtank S-6000 Alpha is a computerised lithium-iron-phosphate battery with 100Ah of capacity, running on a 53Vdc system through a mono power inverter. Input voltage is accepted at either 200-245Vac or 100-130Vac, at 50 or 60Hz, so the same chassis covers both European and North American mains standards. Transfer time from grid to battery power is rated at under 15 milliseconds, fast enough that connected equipment should not register the switch, and the unit outputs a pure sine wave at 100-130Vac or 200-245Vac, with frequency held to 50Hz or 60Hz within plus or minus 0.05 percent.
Output Power and Connectivity
On the Stromtank S-6000 Alpha, continuous output power is rated at 2,500VA at 25 degrees Celsius, with a 3,000VA burst rating available for up to three minutes, headroom aimed at amplifiers that draw hard on dynamic peaks rather than settling into a steady average load. Outputs are available as two Schuko sockets fitted with Furutech NFC connectors, or as two duplex receptacles in pure, rhodium-plated copper, depending on region and configuration.
Stromtank builds the S-6000 Alpha in both silver and black finishes, both shown here, and offers an optional remote control for switching the unit between operating modes without reaching around the back of a rack. The chassis follows the same visual language as the rest of the Stromtank range, dominated by a large illuminated battery-status gauge on the front panel and the brand’s alpha-symbol branding.
