Sony has widened its G Lens Series with the Sony SEL814G, the brand’s first fisheye zoom built for full-frame E-mount Alpha cameras. Officially named the FE 8-14mm F3.5 G Fisheye Lens, the Sony SEL814G swings from a circular 8mm fisheye view to a diagonal 14mm perspective inside a single, compact barrel, giving landscape, architecture, sports, event and video shooters a flexible new tool for wide, distorted framing without swapping lenses mid-shoot.
From Circular to Diagonal in One Zoom
The Sony SEL814G covers an 8mm-to-14mm range that spans two distinct fisheye looks. At 8mm, it captures a circular fisheye image with a 180-degree angle of view, projecting the frame as a full circle on a full-frame sensor. Zoom to 14mm and the lens switches to a diagonal fisheye perspective, also with a 180-degree angle of view, but filling the entire frame edge to edge. That range lets photographers tune the angle of view and composition to the subject and the creative effect they are after, whether that is a sweeping landscape, a tight architectural interior, or a dynamic sports or event angle.

G Lens Sharpness Across the Zoom Range
Optically, the Sony SEL814G leans on ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements to suppress chromatic and other aberrations across the full image surface, so resolution stays consistent from one end of the zoom to the other — the same standard Sony applies across its G Lens line. A minimum focus distance of 0.15 metres and a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the tele end also open the door to close-up fisheye shots, in both stills and video, that a typical wide-angle zoom cannot match.

Compact Enough for Handheld Work and Spatial Video
At roughly 63.1mm in diameter, 82.8mm long and about 314 grams, the Sony SEL814G is built with mobility in mind, making it a natural fit for handheld shooting as well as gimbal and rig work. An internal zoom mechanism keeps the centre of gravity from shifting noticeably as the lens zooms, and fast, quiet autofocus with Linear Response MF and reduced focus breathing supports both photo and video use. A dust- and moisture-resistant construction, plus a fluorine coating on the front element, rounds out the lens for outdoor conditions.
Pairing two examples of the Sony SEL814G with two VENICE Extension System Mini units, sold separately, places their optical axes roughly 64mm apart — close to the average human interpupillary distance — which lets the combination support spatial content production, including VR, with a natural sense of depth. Sony will show the SEL814G on its stand at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam from Friday 11 September. For photographers already invested in Sony’s full-frame system, the SEL814G slots in as a specialist alongside more everyday optics such as the Sony FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS.
