What’s in the box?
The Silent Angel Bonn N8C network switch, nicely packed. A cardboard box contains the power cable with adaptor and network cable with gold plated connectors. Fancy! Let’s finish off with a user manual and warranty information.
Features?
Its standout feature is the ultra-precise 0.1ppm TCXO clock, which reduces jitter to an impressive 369ps, ensuring minimal latency and distortion for flawless audio transmission. The switch includes eight gold-plated Gigabit Ethernet ports, ideal for connecting music streamers, servers, and DACs in a dedicated HiFi network. An embedded EMI absorber and advanced low-noise power filtering purify signals, isolating audio zones from household network interference for enhanced clarity and stability.
The Bonn N8C also supports an external master clock input, allowing further precision tuning. Its robust and advanced isolation circuit design prioritizes signal integrity, reducing data packet errors and maintaining consistent streaming performance. A medical-grade power supply ensures stable power delivery, isolating electrical noise from the network. Next-level power delivery can be achieved using the separate Forester F2 linear power supply. Tailored for high-fidelity enthusiasts, it integrates seamlessly with Silent Angel’s ecosystem, including streamers and servers, and supports high-resolution audio formats.
Closer look?
It looks like an Apple Mac Studio (the grey version that is, cause it’s also available in black). We love the design. Even when you start stacking components, it will still look sleek and awesome. On top you’ll find the engraved Silent Angel logo. The sides look clean. The product stands on tiny rubber feet. At the back then: 8 network ports, external clock input switch, the actual clock input, 12V external power supply input and power led. Plain, clean and simple.
For whom is this product?
With this middle segment product targets audiophiles and high-fidelity enthusiasts seeking to optimize their network audio streaming with minimal jitter and superior sound clarity.
Conclusion?
Those Silent Angel products just keep on getting better. Introducing the Bonn N8C network switch in our system was -again- an ear opener. It might come over as voodoo, but what this product does with the performance level of your system is just unheard of. The audible upgrade becomes mandatory, going back to listening without it might turn out to be very disappointing. It instantaneously introduces more dynamics, bass power and layering to the sound that turns listening to music into participating in the performance.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Bonn N8C’s performance be upgraded further after purchase?
Yes — it accepts an external master clock input (with a dedicated switch and port on the back) for further precision tuning, and its power delivery can be upgraded using the separate Forester F2 linear power supply.
How precise is the Bonn N8C’s clock, in real numbers?
Its 0.1ppm TCXO clock reduces jitter to 369 picoseconds, aimed at minimizing latency and distortion in the audio signal.
How does the Bonn N8C protect against network interference and power noise?
A robust isolation circuit design reduces data-packet errors for consistent streaming, while a medical-grade power supply keeps electrical noise isolated from the network signal — two separate safeguards rather than one all-in-one fix.
What did the Bonn N8C do to the sound in this first listen?
The review describes an immediate effect: more dynamics, more bass power and more layering, to the point where going back to listening without it is called disappointing.
