Shanling Q2: A Stylish Comeback for the Compact Player Line

Shanling has revived its compact Q line with the launch of the Shanling Q2, a pocket-sized Hi-Fi portable player built around the brand’s latest MTouch platform. The Shanling Q2 trades the sharp edges of Shanling’s recent Android-based players for a smooth, curved body, and is now shipping to distributors at $259 / €279.

A curved, old-school design in a truly compact body

Shanling designed the Q2 around a touch screen and a touch volume wheel, measuring just 80 x 50 x 13.5mm, small enough to disappear into a pocket. Where the brand’s M-series players have leaned into minimalist, all-screen designs, the Shanling Q2 opts for a simpler, old-school look, with the same touch-navigation ideas dressed in a friendlier, rounded shell. It launches in three finishes, Smoky Grey, Moonlight Silver and Twilight Orange, aimed squarely at listeners who want a dedicated music player rather than another app on a phone.

Quad DACs and MTouch OS under a compact shell

Inside, the Shanling Q2 runs a quad-DAC assembly built around four ES CS43131 chips, paired with the latest generation of Shanling’s in-house MTouch operating system, now with more than eight years of refinement behind it. High gain mode pushes output to 425mW at 32 ohms, while low gain and a precise 100-step volume control are aimed at more sensitive in-ear monitors. The Shanling Q2 supports PCM up to 768kHz and DSD512, and covers both USB DAC mode and USB transport duties when connected to a computer, alongside two-way Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Familiar connections, refreshed for MTouch

Connectivity on the Shanling Q2 covers both 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs, a microSD slot supporting cards up to 2TB, and Shanling’s companion SyncLink app for file transfers and firmware updates. Battery life is rated at up to 13.5 hours, and the Shanling Q2 arrives alongside the brand’s broader August lineup, which also includes the upcoming Shanling CD50 desktop CD player and Roon compatibility for the YBA YM302 streamer DAC, both signs of a busier release schedule than usual for the Shenzhen brand this quarter.

Where the Q2 fits in Shanling’s lineup

Shanling has built a wide catalogue of portable players over the past decade, from the flagship M-series Android devices down to ultra-compact clip-on models, but the original Q line had been dormant for several product cycles. Bringing it back with the Shanling Q2 signals that Shanling still sees demand for a smaller, screen-and-wheel player that sits below its Android-based M3 Plus Master and M5 Ultra models, without asking listeners to learn a full touchscreen interface.
