Sennheiser Formula E: that pairing is now official. The German audio specialist has signed a multi-year partnership with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, becoming the series’ Official Sound Provider. Announced August 10 in London, the deal will see Sennheiser’s professional audio solutions and pioneering AMBEO immersive audio technology integrated across the world’s first all-electric FIA World Championship, aiming to bring fans closer to the excitement, energy and emotion of electric racing.

AMBEO meets electric racing
As Formula E enters its GEN4 era, the series is positioning itself as a “living laboratory” for sport-tech innovation, and sound is the newest frontier. Through the partnership, Formula E and Sennheiser will explore how advanced audio capture and encoding workflows can create richer, more immersive broadcasts for fans watching on any device. The ambition is to set a new benchmark for live sports broadcasting, using Sennheiser’s expertise to capture the distinctive, high-performance soundscapes of the electric single-seaters.
At the heart of the technical integration is AMBEO, Sennheiser’s immersive audio ecosystem for capturing, processing and reproducing natural, three-dimensional sound. “AMBEO enables the capture, processing and reproduction of natural, three-dimensional sound, supporting more immersive and emotionally engaging listening experiences,” says Kai Detlefsen, Manager, AMBEO at Sennheiser. “Within Formula E, AMBEO solutions will allow viewers at home to feel more closely connected to the dynamic racing environment and to their favorite teams.”
A multi-year commitment
Both organizations frame the deal as more than a sponsorship. “Innovation and technology are at the core of Formula E, and Sennheiser is the perfect partner to help us redefine the audio landscape of our championship,” says Dan Cherowbrier, CTO of Formula E. “Their professional audio technologies and workflows, particularly the AMBEO immersive ecosystem, provide a uniquely dynamic setting to explore the future of sound in racing.”
Andreas Sennheiser, CEO of the Sennheiser Group, echoes that sentiment: “Formula E represents exactly the kind of environment where meaningful innovation happens. Great visuals deserve equally compelling sound, and we see real potential to define the sport’s unique acoustic character through dynamic in-car and trackside soundscapes.”

Sennheiser Formula E: rollout and availability
The technical partnership focuses on deep integration within Formula E’s broadcast and trackside operations, with AMBEO-driven audio capture rolling out progressively across the championship’s global race calendar. Beyond broadcast, Sennheiser’s technology will also extend to Formula E’s onsite fan zones and VIP hospitality areas, aiming to make race weekends more immersive for attendees as well as viewers at home. No fixed date has been given for when AMBEO-captured audio will first reach broadcasts; both partners describe the collaboration as an ongoing process of “learning, exploring and shaping” the future of live sport sound.
Formula E has genuine momentum behind this kind of tech partnership. Now in its 11th season and past the 150-race mark, the championship has crowned ten different champions and became the first sport in the world to be Certified B Corp. It also serves as a proving ground for EV technology from manufacturers including Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Stellantis, Mahindra and Lola Cars — making it a fitting stage for Sennheiser to test how far immersive audio can push the boundaries of live sports broadcasting.
