Musical Fidelity has unveiled the M6xi, a refined evolution of its popular M6si integrated amplifier that brings modern connectivity while preserving the exceptional analog performance that made the “si” series a favorite among audiophiles.
The new M6xi delivers 230 watts per channel into 8 ohms and a robust 390 watts into 4 ohms — a modest but welcome increase over the M6si’s 220Wpc rating. At its core is an amplifier section derived from Musical Fidelity’s acclaimed TITAN platform, featuring a low-distortion Darlington output stage that minimizes crossover artifacts and residual distortion. An optimized PCB layout further reduces circuit imbalances, while fully analog power supplies during operation help limit high-frequency noise and electromagnetic interference.
Enhanced Connectivity for Today’s Systems
Musical Fidelity describes the M6xi’s updates as “quality-of-life” improvements that significantly expand usability without compromising the sonic purity of its analog heritage. New digital and integration features include:
- Optical and coaxial digital inputs
- HDMI ARC input for seamless connection to modern TVs
- USB-C input
- RS232 connector for custom home automation and integration
- 5V / 2A USB-A power output to conveniently power external streamers or dongles
- Home-theater bypass input, allowing the M6xi to function as a dedicated power amplifier in multichannel setups
The preamplifier section maintains low noise and excellent channel matching across all volume levels thanks to a precision Burr-Brown stepped attenuator. Additional flexibility comes from a pre-out for bi-amping or active subwoofer integration, plus a high-quality phono stage that supports both MM and MC cartridges.
Build Quality and Aesthetics
True to Musical Fidelity tradition, the M6xi features a rigid, well-shielded aluminum chassis. Front, side, and top panels are milled from extruded profiles, delivering a clean, premium aesthetic and effective protection against electromagnetic interference.
The amplifier is expected to retail for $3,799.
Brand Perspective
Jeff Coates, Musical Fidelity Brand Lead and Director of Sales at Harmonia Distribution, commented: “We are delighted that Musical Fidelity has introduced the new M6xi that adds important, listener-friendly features without detracting from the performance the M6si was famous for. We can’t wait for you to experience it in person!”
Positioning in the Lineup
The M6xi strikes an appealing balance for enthusiasts who want high-current, high-power analog amplification with enough modern digital convenience to serve as the heart of a contemporary two-channel system — or even integrate smoothly into a mixed AV setup via HDMI ARC and home-theater bypass.
With its combination of refined power, versatile connectivity, and proven circuit topology, the Musical Fidelity M6xi looks set to appeal to both long-time fans of the M6 series and newcomers seeking a capable, future-proof integrated amplifier in the sub-$4,000 category.
Availability and full specifications are expected to be detailed shortly through Musical Fidelity’s authorized dealers.
