French high-end audio brand Micromega has unveiled the M-Amp Solo, a new integrated amplifier that pays homage to its storied past while embracing modern audiophile demands. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Solo Plexi CD players of the 1990s and the acclaimed M-One integrated from 2016, the M-Amp Solo represents a thoughtful renaissance for the brand, emphasizing French craftsmanship, musicality, and long-term durability.
Priced at €3,000, the M-Amp Solo is fully designed, manufactured, and assembled in France—a rarity in today’s globalized hi-fi market. Conception takes place in Paris, electronic production occurs in Verquin by Eiffage Électronique, and final assembly is handled at La Manufacture du Son in Hossegor, Landes. This end-to-end French production underscores Micromega’s commitment to quality, reparability, and sustainability, with an internal architecture designed for easy access and component replacement.
Top notch components
At its core, the M-Amp Solo is a Class A/B integrated amplifier delivering 2 x 85 watts into 8 ohms (rising to 2 x 105 watts into 4 ohms), powered by a linear toroidal transformer supply for clean, controlled performance. It features a built-in ESS ES9280AQ PRO DAC for high-resolution digital sources, along with essential connectivity: analog RCA inputs, a moving-magnet phono stage, coaxial and optical digital inputs, asynchronous USB, and provisions for firmware updates.
Square footprint
The design is instantly recognizable, reviving the square 35 x 35 cm footprint of the original Solo series. A transparent plexiglass top cover (with an optional solid aluminum version for a more discreet look) reveals the meticulously laid-out internals, flanked by massive machined heatsinks. This blend of retro elegance and contemporary minimalism hides cutting-edge electronics optimized purely for musical reproduction.
Modular architecture
One of the M-Amp Solo’s standout innovations is its modular architecture. It is fully Roon Ready and pairs seamlessly with Micromega’s optional Escape M1 R (or M1 AIR) external streamer module, which attaches mechanically and handles high-resolution streaming while routing digital-to-analog conversion through the amplifier’s superior internal DAC. This future-proof approach allows owners to upgrade capabilities without obsolescing the core unit.
Early impressions from the French hi-fi press highlight the M-Amp Solo’s profound musicality: a precise, dynamic, and natural sound signature that remains balanced and coherent across genres. Reviewers note its ability to drive a wide range of speakers with authority, delivering finesse alongside power—true to Micromega’s decades-long pursuit of emotional, artist-intended playback.
Availability is set for January 2026, positioning the M-Amp Solo as a compelling option for discerning audiophiles seeking a timeless, high-performance integrated amplifier rooted in French engineering excellence. In an era of fleeting trends, Micromega’s latest offering stands as a durable reference in premium amplification.
