French screen maker Lumene has introduced the Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic, a motorized, tab-tensioned projection screen built around an acoustically transparent canvas. The Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic lets installers place a center-channel speaker directly behind the picture, recreating the dialogue-from-the-screen effect of a commercial cinema in a home theater.
Transonore canvas and tensioned fabric
The defining feature of the Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic is its transonore fabric, which is acoustically porous enough to pass sound while still presenting a flat, UHD 4K-rated image surface. Lumene rates the material at 1.0 gain with a 160-degree viewing angle, and backs every panel with an opaque black layer so the screen can also be mounted in front of a window without light bleeding through. A tab-tensioning system keeps the Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic’s canvas taut and wrinkle-free across its lifespan, while black borders on all four edges sharpen the perceived frame and boost contrast.
Lumene Silent Motor and installation
Lumene built the Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic around its Silent Motor platform, which the brand says runs twice as quietly as a standard screen motor thanks to a refined braking system that also extends service life. The aluminum housing can be ceiling- or wall-mounted using a safety clip system, and the screen ships with an infrared remote, a 12V trigger cable for syncing with a projector’s power-up sequence, and an RS232 port for integration with home automation systems.
Sizes and compatibility
The Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic ships in four 16:9 diagonal sizes: 200C, 240C, 270C and 300C. The 240C variant measures 234 x 132cm of projection surface (106-inch diagonal) with black borders of 80mm on the sides, 60mm at the bottom and 400mm at the top for extra-drop installations with high ceilings. Lumene lists the Coliseum UHD 4K Acoustic as compatible with standard, long-throw and short-throw projectors, though not with ultra-short-throw models given the flat, tensioned surface.
