FiiO has announced the DP11, a compact desktop CD transport aimed at listeners who never stopped buying discs. Priced at $170 in black or silver, the FiiO DP11 is scheduled to reach retailers in late September or early October, pairing a custom CD mechanism with a built-in DAC and pre-amp stage in a chassis far smaller than a traditional full-width CD player.
Compact Design, Familiar Controls
At 213 x 230 x 67mm, the FiiO DP11 is sized to sit alongside a desktop DAC or headphone amplifier rather than in a full-size equipment rack. The front-loading tray uses what FiiO calls a deck-grade mechanism with servo firmware tuned for accurate disc reading, and a 3.71-inch amber LCD keeps track information visible without dominating a desk. Power comes from an internal mains supply, though the unit also accepts an external 12V/2A DC adapter for quieter desktop setups.
A DAC and Pre-amp Built In
Rather than functioning purely as a transport, the DP11 carries a Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chip driving a pair of RCA analogue outputs, and FiiO positions it as capable of feeding active speakers or a power amplifier directly. Listeners who prefer to keep decoding in a separate DAC can bypass the internal chip entirely through the coaxial, TOSLINK or AES/EBU digital outputs, making the FiiO DP11 as much a flexible digital transport as a standalone player. That dual role echoes the design approach FiiO took with its recent FT15 planar headphones, where practicality was prioritised alongside sound quality.
CD Ripping and Digital Flexibility
A USB port on the DP11 accepts a flash drive directly, letting owners rip discs to WAV without a computer in the loop. The same connectivity supports USB-to-digital conversion, so a laptop or streamer can route audio out through the DP11’s coaxial, optical or AES outputs. For a household still holding onto a CD collection, that combination turns the FiiO DP11 into both an archiving tool and a everyday digital hub.
