DALI (Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries) has announced the BASIK SUB, a compact active subwoofer designed to give small hi-fi and home cinema systems the low-frequency depth their main speakers cannot deliver on their own. Built as a natural partner for DALI’s KUPID and SONIK 1 bookshelf loudspeakers, the DALI BASIK SUB combines an in-house 8-inch long-stroke woofer with a 170 W Class-D amplifier in a footprint small enough for compact living spaces.
A Natural Partner for Bookshelf Speakers
DALI has seen a rise in the popularity of bookshelf speakers over the past year, fuelled largely by affordable streaming amplifiers and turntables that let listeners build a custom hi-fi system for the price of a smartphone. The DALI BASIK SUB is designed as the natural next step for those systems: almost all affordable streaming amplifiers and speakers include a dedicated subwoofer output and bass management, making it simple to add the scale and bandwidth a small bookshelf pair cannot reproduce alone.

An In-House 8-Inch Woofer and Class-D Amplification
At the heart of the DALI BASIK SUB is an in-house designed 8-inch down-firing, long-stroke woofer. Its paper-pulp membrane keeps mass low while staying rigid, and an oversized ferrite magnet with a high-flux motor system provides precise control, while a long, vented voice coil helps manage heat and minimise compression at higher listening levels. The down-firing layout also spreads bass evenly around the room and frees up placement options.
Power comes from a highly efficient Class-D amplifier delivering 170 W RMS and 220 W peak, paired with a switch-mode power supply that keeps both consumption and heat generation low. A built-in dual-stage limiter protects signal integrity, while gain, crossover and phase controls make the subwoofer easy to integrate into a wide range of systems.
Five Colour Finishes for a Compact MDF Cabinet
The DALI BASIK SUB’s compact MDF enclosure is available in Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue, letting it match the finishes already offered on the KUPID and SONIK 1 speakers. The rigid MDF construction gives the driver an acoustically stable foundation, while four decoupled feet elevate the cabinet by 25 mm to reduce vibrations and let the down-firing woofer work efficiently. Its small footprint means the subwoofer fits comfortably in both compact apartments and larger rooms, whether tucked against a wall or positioned in a corner.
Easy Integration With Hi-Fi and Home Cinema Systems
DALI engineered the BASIK SUB around its own sound design principles to deliver clean, low-distortion bass with precise timing. An adjustable crossover (40–120 Hz) lets the subwoofer be matched to different loudspeaker sizes and room acoustics for amplifiers without a dedicated subwoofer output, while phase adjustment from 0–180° helps align the low-frequency output with the main speakers. Independent volume control makes final tweaks straightforward.
Connectivity covers both hi-fi and home cinema use: LINE L/R inputs accommodate conventional stereo systems, while a dedicated mono LFE input allows easy connection to AV receivers and streaming amplifiers equipped with a subwoofer output. Power modes cycle between ON, AUTO and OFF, with auto standby kicking in after roughly 20 minutes of inactivity and standby consumption of just 0.4 W.
Pricing and availability
The DALI BASIK SUB is set to release in October, priced at €500, $800 and £429. It joins the recently introduced DALI SONIK and DALI KUPID bookshelf speakers as the third piece of DALI’s accessible, streaming-friendly hi-fi lineup.
