CMF Speaker S and M: Nothing’s New Portable Speaker Duo

Nothing’s design sub-brand CMF has introduced two new additions to its CMF Speaker line: the Speaker S and the larger Speaker M. Both are inspired by the sharp geometry of a milk carton, built around a physical control knob instead of touch buttons, and launch in four colourways including the bright Turquoise shown here. The line is aimed squarely at portable, everyday listening rather than the high-end systems this site usually covers, but the pair’s design language and feature set make them worth a closer look.

The CMF Speaker S: A Pocketable Companion

The Speaker S is the compact model in the range, built around a single 45mm full-range driver with adaptive tuning covering 70Hz to 20kHz, rated at 10W RMS. Two passive radiators add low-end resonance, and it comes with a carabiner hook for clipping onto a bag. A physical Knob on the front handles playback, track navigation and volume, while dedicated buttons cover power, Bluetooth pairing and Auracast. IP68 dust and water protection and a rated 18 hours of playback round out a design clearly meant to travel.

The Speaker M: Bigger Drivers, Deeper Bass

The Speaker M steps up to a two-driver system, pairing a 70mm woofer with a 16mm tweeter for a combined 35W RMS output across a 60Hz-20kHz range, aimed at deeper bass and more separated vocals. It keeps the same Knob control, carabiner-style handle, IP68 rating and 18-hour battery claim as the Speaker S, while adding a larger 4900mAh battery. Both speakers support Nothing’s Stereo Mode for pairing two identical units into a wider soundstage, and Party Mode via Auracast for linking multiple speakers together.

Shared Features Across the Speaker Range

Both CMF Speaker models connect over Bluetooth 6.0 with a claimed range beyond 100 metres, support Google and Microsoft Fast Pair, and can maintain two simultaneous device connections. A USB-C input allows lossless wired playback at under 60ms latency for use with a desktop or games console. The free Nothing X app adds four EQ presets alongside a Custom EQ mode, and both speakers use removable front panels for swapping covers. Fast charging delivers roughly one hour of playback from a 10-minute charge.

Pricing and Availability

The Speaker S is priced at £49 and the Speaker M at £99, both available directly through nothing.tech in Turquoise, along with Black, White and Orange finishes. Both CMF Speaker models are covered by Nothing’s standard 24-month warranty on audio products, with a similar portable-speaker positioning to the Fresh ‘n Rebel Party Loud L.

Key Specifications

  • Speaker S: 45mm full-range driver, 10W RMS, 70Hz-20kHz, 2600mAh battery, 130.5 x 85 x 44mm, 334g
  • Speaker M: 70mm woofer + 16mm tweeter, 35W RMS total, 60Hz-20kHz, 4900mAh battery, 220 x 85 x 54mm, 602g
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 6.0, USB-C audio (<60ms latency), NFC and Fast Pair, dual device connection
  • Features: Stereo Mode, Party Mode (Auracast), Custom EQ via Nothing X, Ultra Bass, Night Mode
  • Protection: IP68 dust and water resistance, charging protection
  • Battery life: up to 18 hours (AAC, 50% volume), 10-minute fast charge for 1 hour playback
  • Colours: Turquoise, Black, White, Orange

With the CMF Speaker S and M, Nothing’s CMF line continues to chase distinctive industrial design and physical controls at accessible prices, positioning the CMF Speaker duo as an easy grab-and-go pairing rather than a step into serious hi-fi territory.

Publisher

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
