The Luxman P-800u is the new flagship headphone amplifier from the Japanese manufacturer. Luxman showed it for the first time at the Tokyo International Audio Show (TIAS 2026), and it goes on sale in Japan in November. The P-800u replaces the P-750u MARK II, which went out of production this spring, and borrows technology and know-how developed for the P-100 CENTENNIAL. It is a purely analogue design with four-channel balanced drive and three headphone outputs.
LIFES 1.1 on all four channels of the Luxman P-800u
At the core of the Luxman P-800u is version 1.1 of LIFES, Luxman’s own high-performance feedback circuit. In the P-800u it is applied to all four amplifier channels, in a fully balanced configuration.
Through the balanced headphone outputs, the amplifier runs in BTL (bridged) balanced mode. According to Luxman this considerably improves channel separation and sound localisation, while also reducing intermodulation distortion and stabilising the power supply voltage. The result, Luxman says, is a transparent and three-dimensional sound.

Parallel drive for the 6.35 mm output
The single-ended 6.35 mm headphone jack gets its own clever trick. In this configuration, two of the four amplifier circuits are combined to drive the output in parallel. That doubles the available output current, which should give a powerful, full and dynamic sound with headphones that are hard to drive. It is a smart way to make use of the four-channel layout, even for listeners who do not use balanced cables.
In unbalanced mode the Luxman P-800u delivers 4 W per channel into 8 ohms, 2 W into 16 ohms and 1 W into 32 ohms. In balanced mode that becomes 8 W into 16 ohms and 4 W into 32 ohms, with 213 mW still available for 600-ohm headphones.
LECUA volume control with a limiter
Volume is handled by LECUA, Luxman’s electronically controlled attenuator. It keeps the left and right channels closely matched even at very low volume settings, and avoids changes in sound quality while you turn the knob. The P-800u adds a three-step sensitivity setting and a left/right balance control that do not compromise the sound.
The volume position is shown in -dB on the front display, and a six-step volume limiter protects both your hearing and your headphones.

Connections and design
On the back you find one unbalanced RCA input and two balanced XLR inputs. Headphone outputs include a balanced 4.4 mm socket, a balanced 4-pin XLR and the 6.35 mm jack, plus a through output to pass the signal on. The Luxman P-800u comes in the familiar Blaster White finish with spin-finished, knurled knobs, and at 15.7 kg it is a serious piece of equipment. Looking for a headphone to match?
