Berliner Philharmoniker Dolby Atmos streaming has arrived: the orchestra has begun broadcasting every live concert from the Main Auditorium of the Philharmonie Berlin in Immersive Audio. Since the start of the 2026/27 season, the Digital Concert Hall has rendered direct sound, reflections, and reverberation in three dimensions, aiming to recreate a much stronger sense of the hall’s acoustic space for listeners tuning in remotely.
Berliner Philharmoniker Dolby Atmos: A First for Classical Streaming
The Digital Concert Hall is the first classical-music streaming platform to offer regular live broadcasts in Dolby Atmos, making the Berliner Philharmoniker an early mover among orchestras bringing object-based, immersive formats to streamed performances. The first concert broadcast in the new format was the season-opening concert on 21 August 2026, conducted by chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, and every subsequent live concert from the Main Auditorium has followed the same Immersive Audio treatment.

Nine Seasons of Immersive Archive Content
Beyond live broadcasts, the Digital Concert Hall’s archive now includes concerts from the past nine seasons remastered in Immersive Audio, available to subscribers at no extra cost. “At the Digital Concert Hall, artistic excellence goes hand in hand with continuing technical innovation,” said Olaf Maninger, principal cellist and media board member of the Berliner Philharmoniker and managing director of Berlin Phil Media GmbH. “Being the first classical streaming provider in the world to offer regular live broadcasts in Immersive Audio reflects that commitment, and we are very proud of it.”

Recreating the Philharmonie at Home
Maninger described the goal as giving listeners who cannot travel to Berlin something of the experience of sitting inside the Philharmonie itself. “For listeners who cannot travel to Berlin, the format recreates something of the experience of being in the Philharmonie,” he said. “Every week, they can hear our concerts in three-dimensional sound, almost as if they were sitting in the Main Auditorium.” Dolby Atmos is supported across a wide range of devices, from headphones to full multi-speaker home cinema systems, so the format works whether a listener is at a desk or in a dedicated home theater. Owners of a Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbar or AV receiver, such as the Klipsch FLEXUS CORE 300, can simply select the Digital Concert Hall’s live stream and hear the format reproduced through their existing home theater setup.

Part of a Wider Shift Toward Immersive Classical Streaming
The move follows a broader trend of orchestras and concert venues experimenting with object-based audio formats to deepen the sense of presence for remote audiences, but the Berliner Philharmoniker Dolby Atmos rollout is the first to commit to the format as the default for every regular live broadcast rather than treating it as an occasional special event. Because the archive already spans nine seasons of remastered concerts, subscribers gain immediate access to a large immersive catalog rather than waiting for new content to accumulate, making the Digital Concert Hall’s rollout considerably more complete than a typical format launch. For an orchestra that has long positioned the Digital Concert Hall as a technical showcase as much as a streaming service, committing to Dolby Atmos across the entire live schedule signals how seriously classical institutions are now taking immersive audio as a mainstream listening format rather than a niche demonstration feature.
