Apple TV Dolby Atmos Formula 1 coverage is official: Dolby Laboratories and Apple have announced that Dolby Atmos is coming to every Formula 1 race weekend on Apple TV, joining the Dolby Vision picture that has been part of the broadcast since the start of the season. The combination debuts with the 2026 US Grand Prix in Austin, which runs October 23-25.
What Apple TV Dolby Atmos Formula 1 Adds to the Broadcast
Until now, Apple’s Formula 1 streams have been carried in 5.1 surround sound. Dolby Atmos is designed to place fans inside the action rather than in front of it, mixing team radio communications, race commentary, engine notes, on-track battles and pit lane activity across a full three-dimensional soundstage. According to Dolby, the goal is to carry the specific sonic identity of each circuit and race weekend, not just raise the volume on existing elements.
Dolby Vision remains the picture half of the pairing, sharpening colour, contrast, brightness and detail so that team liveries and individual circuits keep their character on screen. Apple and Dolby frame the two technologies together as a single upgrade to how race weekends are experienced, rather than two separate features bolted onto the existing broadcast.
Who Gets It, and What You Need
Apple TV Dolby Atmos Formula 1 coverage is available through the Apple TV app on supported Apple devices, along with compatible Dolby-enabled televisions, soundbars and home theatre systems. Dolby’s John Couling has said no new hardware is required at the race circuits themselves, since the Atmos mix is built from Formula 1’s existing trackside sensors and microphones. Apple has not yet confirmed whether Atmos will extend to practice and qualifying sessions or only the race itself, nor whether the feature will carry through to every Grand Prix for the rest of the season.
“The sound of Formula 1 is such an important part of what makes the sport so exciting, and with Dolby Atmos joining Dolby Vision, fans can experience the energy and intensity of every Grand Prix in a whole new way,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, Apple TV and Beats.

Part of a Wider Streaming Push
Apple TV is the exclusive US home of Formula 1, carrying every practice, qualifying, Sprint session and race live and on demand, alongside Multiview options for onboard feeds, podium data and real-time race information. The Dolby Atmos rollout follows Apple’s broader pattern of layering premium audio and video formats onto its live sports rights, a strategy also visible on the hardware side, where premium home-cinema gear such as the Hisense PX4 Pro projector is built around the same Dolby Vision pipeline.
Pricing and availability
The Apple TV Dolby Atmos Formula 1 upgrade launches with the 2026 US Grand Prix weekend beginning Friday, October 23, available exclusively to US Apple TV subscribers. Apple has not disclosed separate pricing for the feature; it is included as part of an existing Apple TV subscription, which also covers the full Formula 1 race calendar.
