Apple has unveiled a new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display. The 14-inch and 16-inch models combine a tandem OLED touchscreen with the new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a redesigned six-speaker sound system and a lighter, thinner body. The new MacBook Pro arrives in stores on 6 November 2026.
PROLED XDR: tandem OLED with touch
The biggest change is the screen. The PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED with two layers of self-illuminating pixels and reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness in both HDR and SDR, with a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. ProMotion adapts the refresh rate from 10 Hz to 120 Hz. The panel covers P3 and Adobe RGB and more than 80% of Rec. 2020, and comes factory calibrated. For the first time in a MacBook Pro, the touch sensor is built into the panel itself. An antireflective coating is standard, and a nano-texture finish is optional.

Six speakers with deeper bass
For our readers, the audio side is just as interesting. The MacBook Pro gets a six-speaker system with an all-new woofer design that, according to Apple, delivers 50% deeper bass. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is supported, and Apple has added dedicated audio tuning for use with the lid closed and an external display. Studio-quality microphones and a headphone jack remain part of the package. Apple recently also brought new audio features to its smaller devices, such as the Apple iPad mini with A20 Pro.

M5 Pro and M5 Max
Inside, the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip works with up to 128 GB of unified memory and up to 16 TB of storage. The Apple N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple promises up to 24 hours of battery life, and fast charging to 50% in about 30 minutes. The 14-inch model weighs about 1.4 kg and the 16-inch model about 1.8 kg, both lighter and thinner than before.

Ports and software
The MacBook Pro keeps three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and the headphone jack. The M5 Pro supports up to three external displays and the M5 Max up to four. A 12 MP Center Stage camera and Touch ID complete the hardware. On the software side, macOS 27 brings Apple Intelligence, Siri AI and the Dynamic Island to the Mac for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri. For music producers and audio editors, the combination of a bright, accurate touchscreen and a powerful chip makes this MacBook Pro a serious mobile studio.
