Sony Dresses the WH-1000XM6 in a New Olive Gray Finish

Sony has expanded the colorway lineup of its flagship WH-1000XM6 noise-cancelling headphones with a sixth finish. Sony WH-1000XM6 Olive Gray brings a subtle, earthy green tone to the award-winning over-ear model, joining Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Sand Pink and Sandstone in the range. The new colorway is available now, priced at €379 (roughly $459 in the US), with no changes to the hardware, sound signature or noise cancelling that made the WH-1000XM6 one of Sony’s most acclaimed headphones since its original launch.

Sony WH-1000XM6 Olive Gray: What’s New

Sony describes the new finish as a subtle, natural colour that effortlessly complements any look, and the description holds up: it’s a muted, khaki-adjacent green rather than a bold accent colour, giving the headphones a more understated, tailored appearance than the brighter Sand Pink or Sandstone options that preceded it. The matte finish carries through to the earcups, headband and hinges, and Sony ships Sony WH-1000XM6 Olive Gray with a matching, colour-coordinated carrying case rather than the standard black pouch, extending the aesthetic beyond the headphones themselves and into the accessory that travels with them.

Same Flagship Engineering Underneath

Nothing changes under the hood. The WH-1000XM6 platform still relies on Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, a chip the company says processes noise-cancelling data seven times faster than its predecessor, paired with a 12-microphone array for real-time adaptation to wind, voices and cabin noise. Audio is handled by a 30mm carbon fiber composite driver, tuned in collaboration with mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios and Coast Mastering, and the headphones support Sony’s LDAC codec for Hi-Res Audio Wireless playback. Android owners also get Fast Pair support for one-tap setup, alongside the dual-device multipoint connection and up to 30 hours of battery life with noise cancelling switched on that Sony introduced with the original WH-1000XM6.

A Growing Nature-Inspired Palette

Sony WH-1000XM6 Olive Gray is the third new colorway added to the range since launch, following Sand Pink in February and Sandstone in May, and reflects a broader shift in the WH-1000XM6 lineup toward calmer, nature-inspired tones rather than purely primary colours. Sony attributes the move to listeners increasingly favouring a timeless, understated style over anything too attention-grabbing, a trend that puts the WH-1000XM6 in step with muted colour palettes elsewhere in consumer electronics this year. Whether that restraint is enough to draw buyers away from the existing five finishes remains to be seen, but it does give Sony a sixth, distinct answer for anyone who found the earlier colours too loud for daily, all-day wear.

Pricing and availability

Sony WH-1000XM6 Olive Gray is available now for €379 in Belgium (SKU WH1000XM6G.CE7) and around $459 in the US, through Sony’s own online store as well as Amazon, Best Buy and other authorised retailers. Pricing and specifications are unchanged from the existing Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Sand Pink and Sandstone versions; only the exterior finish and the matching carrying case differ.

Publisher

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
