Sony has introduced the Sony IER-M500, a new professional in-ear monitor built for musicians and performers who need a secure fit and dependable sound on stage. Unveiled in Brussels on 8 July 2026, the IER-M500 draws on Sony’s years of monitor engineering to offer a firm, stable fit, high passive noise isolation and accurate, trustworthy monitoring during live performances.
The IER-M500 was developed together with monitor engineers, including Noel Edwards, who mixes monitors for international touring artists. “Normally I work with custom in-ear monitors, but the sound quality of the IER-M500 comes surprisingly close,” Edwards said. “If you are looking for universal in-ear monitors you can rely on, these are an excellent choice.”
A fit built for intensive performances
Sony designed the IER-M500 with comfort and stability as priorities, combining a carefully tuned shape and weight balance with the company’s own fitting supporters and noise-isolating tips, supplied in four sizes. A thin polyurethane housing wall is intended to improve isolation, clarity and long-session comfort, while flexible ear hooks and clips add extra security during energetic performances.

Isolation and detail for demanding stages
A fully sealed housing and a spacious acoustic chamber keep ambient stage noise out, even on loud stages, while the dynamic driver and optimised acoustic construction are tuned for powerful, controlled bass alongside a clear top end. The IER-M500 also supports High-Resolution Audio for a wide, natural frequency range. High passive isolation means performers can keep monitor volume lower during long rehearsals and shows, reducing strain on their hearing. The category has become increasingly competitive: bestofhighend.com recently covered 64 Audio’s 15 years of in-ear monitor innovation, underlining how much engineering now goes into this compact format.

Built for the road, with an eye on sustainability
The IER-M500 is designed for repeated use on stage, remaining reliable when exposed to sweat or splashes, with a detachable cable of roughly 1.6 metres built to withstand frequent connecting and disconnecting. It ships in three colourways – transparent, black and red/blue – with clearly marked left and right sides for quick identification. Sony also notes that 35% of the plastic in the IER-M500 has been replaced with recycled material, part of the company’s push to cut down on new fossil-based plastics.

The Sony IER-M500 will be available from August 2026 in transparent, black and red/blue finishes, with a recommended retail price of €115. More information is available via Sony’s official site.
