Scansonic Launches M30.2 Flagship Loudspeakers

A new flagship floorstander with ribbon tweeter, honeycomb-cone drivers and passive radiator bass, drawing on Raidho-derived engineering

Scansonic M30.2 loudspeakers

Scansonic HD has introduced the M30.2, the new flagship of its M series floorstanding loudspeakers. The Scansonic M30.2 pairs a ribbon tweeter with twin bass drivers and rear-mounted passive radiators, drawing on trickle-down technology from sister brand Raidho to deliver an expansive, authoritative performance well beyond its price class.

Ribbon Tweeter and Driver Array

At the top of the Scansonic M30.2 sits a neodymium ribbon tweeter built on a kapton diaphragm measuring 71.5 by 44.5 mm, delivering crystalline highs that reveal subtle recorded detail. Below it, a 4-inch honeycomb-cone mid-woofer hands off to twin 6.5-inch honeycomb-cone bass drivers, giving the cabinet a potent, well-controlled low end. High-quality crossover components, unusual at this price point, are used throughout to keep the transition between drivers smooth and the soundstage coherent, with a second-order network crossing over at 600 Hz and 3.5 kHz.

Scansonic M30.2 Passive Radiator Bass Design

Rather than relying on a conventional bass reflex port, the Scansonic M30.2 uses two rear-mounted 5×9-inch passive radiators in a three-way configuration. This extends and refines the low frequencies while preserving clarity across the rest of the spectrum, and keeps the cabinet free of port noise or chuffing at higher volumes. The approach has already caught the attention of the European press: Lite Magazin awarded the M30.2 a 90/90 score, calling it an exceptionally open, airy and spacious design with excellent impulse fidelity, while i-fidelity.de highlighted its four drivers, two passive radiators and solid cabinet construction as exceptional for the price class. Lowbeats.de similarly praised a warm, elegant sound with surprisingly rich and deep bass, describing the speaker as electrically undemanding and highly efficient.

Design and Everyday Use

Sculpted with Scandinavian design sensibilities, the Scansonic M30.2 is finished in Silk White or Silk Black painting and stands 1085 mm tall on a 240 by 380 mm footprint, weighing 25 kg per cabinet. With a sensitivity of 88 dB and an 8-ohm impedance (minimum 4 ohm), the speaker is easy to drive, and Scansonic recommends pairing it with amplifiers in the 50 to 200-watt range, from modest integrated amps through larger high-end designs. Every M30.2 is built at the Dantax Radio factory in Pandrup, Denmark, alongside the rest of the Scansonic HD range. For another loudspeaker built on Raidho-derived engineering, see our coverage of the Børresen T5 Silver Supreme Edition.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
