QUAD is rounding out its loudspeaker range with two new models built around a shared acoustic philosophy. The QUAD ELEGAN 1 and ELEGAN 2 join the brand’s existing Artera, Q Series and Revela ranges as a standmount-and-floorstander pair, aimed at listeners who want the openness and long-term listenability QUAD is known for, wrapped in a compact, contemporary cabinet.
Both models in the QUAD ELEGAN series share the same design language: high-density MDF cabinets with extensive internal bracing to control resonance, QUAD’s Airflow bass reflex port to reduce turbulence at the rear, and a choice of matte black or real walnut veneer finishes. Each is voiced for natural tonal balance rather than an artificially exciting first impression, with QUAD describing the goal as recordings that reward extended listening without becoming fatiguing, and instruments that occupy clearly defined positions within the soundstage.
QUAD ELEGAN 1: A Compact Standmount With Serious Ambition
The smaller QUAD ELEGAN 1 is a two-way standmount design built around a 165mm woven Kevlar bass/midrange driver and a 25mm fabric dome tweeter mounted in a precision waveguide. Despite its compact 365 x 220mm footprint, QUAD quotes bass extension down to 44Hz, helped by the same Airflow port technology used across the range. Sensitivity is rated at 86dB, and QUAD recommends amplifier power between 30 and 150 watts, putting the ELEGAN 1 within reach of most mid-range integrated amplifiers, including QUAD’s own QUAD 3 and Artera Solus models.
The cabinet itself is finished in either matte black or a real wood walnut veneer, with clean, understated proportions intended to sit comfortably in a contemporary living space as easily as a dedicated listening room. QUAD says the crossover point sits at 2.9kHz, chosen to keep the handover between drivers as seamless as possible.
QUAD ELEGAN 2: Three-Way Floorstanding Authority
The QUAD ELEGAN 2 scales the same philosophy up into a three-way floorstander. Twin 165mm woven Kevlar bass drivers extend response down to 32Hz, while a dedicated 125mm Kevlar midrange driver, housed in its own isolated sub-enclosure, handles vocals and instruments separately from the bass section. A Linkwitz-Riley crossover network, split at 480Hz and 2.7kHz, ties the three drivers together, and the same 25mm fabric dome tweeter and waveguide from the ELEGAN 1 caps off the top end.
Sensitivity rises to 90dB and recommended amplifier power spans 30 to 200 watts, giving the ELEGAN 2 the headroom to fill considerably larger rooms than its standmount sibling. At 942mm tall and 28.4kg per cabinet, it is very much the flagship of the pairing, though it keeps the same restrained aesthetic and dual black/walnut finish options as the rest of the QUAD ELEGAN series.
