Q Acoustics has introduced the Q Acoustics 3040c, a slim floorstanding loudspeaker that sits at the compact end of its award-winning 3000c series. Despite the “bookshelf” wording that appears in the product’s own web address, it is not a stand-mount or bookshelf design: at 942mm tall it is a genuine slender tower, positioned below the larger 3050c in the range. Priced at $999 a pair, it brings Q Acoustics’ latest driver engineering, a curved cabinet profile and satin metallic trim to listeners who want floorstanding scale without a large footprint.

Q Acoustics 3040c: a slim floorstander, not a bookshelf speaker

The Q Acoustics 3040c measures 942 x 285 x 281mm (37.1 x 11.2 x 11.1in) including spikes and rear stabilisers, and weighs 14.6kg per cabinet — dimensions that place it firmly in floorstanding territory rather than bookshelf or stand-mount territory. The 3000c family spans six models: the 3010c bookshelf, the 3020c and 3030c stand-mounts, the 3040c compact floorstander, the larger 3050c floorstander, and the 3090c centre channel for home cinema. Q Acoustics positions the 3040c as the natural upgrade from the 3020c and 3030c stand-mount models, which likely explains the “bookshelf” label attached to it in places online, even though the cabinet itself is a slim floorstanding tower.

C³ driver technology and P2P bracing

At the heart of the 3040c is Q Acoustics’ new C³ (Continuous Curved Cone) mid/bass driver profile, which the brand says combines the bass performance of a traditional conic cone with the midrange control of a flared design, improving dispersion and smoothing integration with the tweeter. Each cabinet houses two 120mm (4.75in) C³ bass/mid drivers flanking a single 22mm (0.9in) treble unit; the tweeter is based on design principles from Q Acoustics’ Concept series and is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle to prevent pressure modulation from the mid/bass drivers. Low-colouration cabinets use P2P™ (Point to Point) bracing to stiffen the enclosure and sharpen stereo imaging, while HPE™ (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) tubes control the build-up of internal standing waves and smooth the frequency response.

Four finishes for any room

The Q Acoustics 3040c ships in four finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Pin Oak and Claro Walnut. Each cabinet uses Q Acoustics’ signature curved profile with a slim, contemporary silhouette and premium satin metallic driver trim. A baffle laminated with butyl rubber and black acrylic trim damps vibration while keeping the front free of visible fixings for a clean, minimalist look.

Pricing and availability

The Q Acoustics 3040c is priced at $999 per pair and ships within one to two business days once back in stock through Q Acoustics’ online store, backed by a 30-day hassle-free returns policy and a warranty ranging from two to five years depending on registration. Each pair arrives with foam bungs, speaker grilles, spike feet and covers, M5 screws, rear stabilisers and an owner’s manual. Full technical details are available on the official Q Acoustics 3040c product page. Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
