Onkyo, celebrating its 80th anniversary, has introduced the Muse Y-40 Network Streamer & Integrated Amplifier as part of its new Muse Series. This elegant all-in-one hi-fi solution combines powerful amplification, advanced streaming capabilities, and timeless Japanese design into a compact chassis—perfect for discerning audiophiles seeking premium performance without the clutter of separate components.
Drawing on eight decades of audio expertise since its founding in 1946, the Muse Y-40 distills Onkyo’s legacy into a versatile 2-channel system. It features a full digital circuit paired with cutting-edge Axign Class D amplification and high-current MOS FET outputs, delivering robust power: 75W per channel into 8 ohms (or up to 150W into 4 ohms in peak scenarios). This setup ensures dynamic, precise sound that drives a wide range of speakers with authority, revealing fine details and artistic intent in every track.
Striking color LCD display
At the forefront is a striking 5.46-inch color LCD display, showcasing track metadata, album art, and an analog-style VU meter for a blend of modern convenience and nostalgic charm. The interface is intuitive, enhanced by the Onkyo Controller app for seamless control and setup.
Effortless streaming
Streaming is effortless with built-in support for Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2, and Chromecast built-in, alongside Bluetooth (SBC/AAC) and network options via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Connectivity is comprehensive: three pairs of unbalanced RCA analog inputs, a dedicated MM phono stage for vinyl enthusiasts, digital inputs (coaxial, optical, USB-A for storage playback), HDMI ARC for TV integration, pre-outs, and a 6.3mm headphone jack.
Design highlights
Design highlights include an aluminum front panel for rigidity and vibration control, a ventilated top plate with traditional Japanese “San Kuzushi” patterning, and fanless, temperature-controlled circuitry for silent operation and optimal sound quality. High-grade speaker terminals further underscore its premium build. Measuring just 350 x 99 x 337 mm and weighing 4.4 kg, it integrates beautifully into any living space.
Price and availability
Priced at $999 and available from May 2026 in silver or black finishes, the Muse Y-40 positions itself as an accessible entry into high-end streaming hi-fi. It stands alongside the higher-powered Y-50 sibling, offering a compelling alternative to multi-box systems for those prioritizing simplicity, power, and sonic purity.
Onkyo’s Muse Series marks a bold step in the brand’s rebirth, fusing heritage precision with future-focused innovation—ideal for elevating everyday listening to extraordinary heights.
