ONIX, the premium audio division known for its meticulously crafted high-end components, has unveiled the Zenith XMT20, a dedicated streamer transport that rounds out the acclaimed Zenith lineup. Positioned as a pure digital source, the XMT20 combines cutting-edge streaming capabilities with local playback versatility, delivering reference-grade performance for audiophiles seeking seamless integration into modern high-resolution systems.
The Zenith series already includes the XST20 SACD transport and the XDA20 DAC, renowned for their exceptional build quality and sonic purity. The new XMT20 builds on this foundation by introducing ONIX’s newly developed Linux-based streaming platform, engineered in-house for simplified, faster controls and enhanced remote operation. This platform prioritizes seamless integration with leading services, including full Tidal Connect, QOBUZ Connect, and official Roon Ready certification, allowing users to access vast music libraries with minimal fuss.
Key highlights
Key highlights of the XMT20 include support for gapless local playback of high-resolution files via a rear USB port (up to 2TB drives) and an internal M.2 NVMe SSD slot, all managed through the intuitive Eddict Controller app available for Android and iOS. The device also supports DLNA and AirPlay 2 for broader compatibility, as well as NAS connectivity. For those with physical media collections, the XMT20 offers a flexible CD playback and ripping system compatible with standard USB CD drives or the Shanling CR60 CD player. Ripping occurs directly to SSD or USB with automatic metadata tagging and album art retrieval handled by the app.
Connectivity
Connectivity is comprehensive and audiophile-focused, featuring six digital outputs: Optical, Coaxial, BNC, AES/EBU, an advanced USB interface, and an FPGA-assisted I²S output with 10 preconfigured pinouts to ensure broad compatibility with most I²S-capable DACs. Supported formats are extensive, covering PCM up to 24-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 on USB/I²S, along with DSD64 DoP/D2P on other outputs, and a wide array of file types including DSD (.iso, .dsf, .dff), FLAC, WAV, APE, DXD, and more.
Features that improve sound quality
To maintain signal integrity, the XMT20 employs a pair of KDS high-precision crystal oscillators for ultra-low jitter in digital outputs. Power comes from a robust 25VA Talema transformer, contributing to stable, noise-free performance. The chassis mirrors the Zenith family’s signature aesthetic: a solid aluminum body precision-machined via CNC for durability and elegance, complete with a 3.4-inch touchscreen and the traditional golden control wheel that nods to ONIX’s heritage design.
Dimensions measure 32 x 24 x 7.2 cm, with a weight of 5.2 kg, making it a substantial yet desktop-friendly component suitable for serious listening setups.
We invite you to imagine combining the beautiful sound of our acclaimed ONIX XST20 SACD player with the unlimited music libraries of leading streaming services, the company states in its introduction, emphasizing how the XMT20 bridges physical and digital worlds without compromise.
