Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric model, and given it the most elaborate in-car audio system the marque has ever offered: an optional Naim system that scales up to 1,780 watts and 28 speakers. The announcement pairs one of Bentley’s biggest engineering milestones – its debut EV – with the deepest Naim integration yet, built specifically around the silence an electric powertrain leaves behind.
A Two-Tier Naim Sound System
Every Bentley Torcal ships with a standard system rated at 620 watts across 16 speakers, itself a substantial factory setup. Buyers who step up to the optional Naim system get a considerably larger array: 1,780 watts driving 28 speakers, with Dolby Atmos 7.1 processing for genuine three-dimensional playback inside the cabin. Naim has also added kinaesthetic seat-shakers, transducers built into the seats that let bass frequencies be felt as well as heard, and dedicated speakers built into the front headrests for cleaner dialogue and vocal imaging at the driver and front passenger’s ears.
Engineered for an Electric Cabin
An EV platform gives Naim and Bentley’s acoustic engineers a cleaner canvas than a combustion car ever could: no engine noise to mask or compete with means the speaker array, cabin damping and digital signal processing can be tuned around a much lower noise floor. That is the same logic that has driven premium audio deals across the EV segment recently, and it is why Bentley is positioning the Torcal’s Naim option as the most ambitious system the two companies have engineered together, well beyond the home audio components Naim is better known for.
Performance and Range
The Bentley Torcal launches in two states of tune. The Core trim produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm of torque, enough for 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. The range-topping S trim raises that to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm – the highest torque figure Bentley has ever fitted to a production car – cutting the 0-60mph sprint to 2.8 seconds and lifting top speed to 162mph. Bentley quotes a WLTP range of 375 miles (600km) for the Torcal, with an 800V architecture that accepts up to 400kW of DC fast charging: enough to take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 16 minutes, or to add roughly 100 miles of range in just 7 minutes.
Pricing and availability
