Marantz Introduces CINEMA Series 2 Home Theater Receiver Lineup

Marantz, one of the most respected names in high-end audio for more than 70 years, has introduced the Marantz CINEMA Series 2, the next generation of its acclaimed home theater receivers. The new lineup comprises the CINEMA 50 Series 2, the CINEMA 60 Series 2, the CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2 (Europe’s version of the CINEMA 60) and the CINEMA 70s Series 2, and it builds directly on the praised performance and elegant design of the outgoing CINEMA range while pushing sound quality, connectivity, gaming support and installation flexibility further.

A New DAC at the Heart of Marantz CINEMA Series 2

Every model in the Marantz CINEMA Series 2 range is built around a newly implemented 32-bit, eight-channel DAC that delivers simultaneous high-resolution conversion across every channel rather than processing them sequentially. Marantz says the result is greater precision, sharper imaging, richer dynamic expression and more coherent surround performance throughout the room, while a simplified signal path reduces timing errors and improves reliability. Each model’s tuning has again been overseen by the Marantz Sound Master to preserve the brand’s warm, spacious, “Most Musical Sound” signature.

Dirac Live Room Correction, previously reserved mostly for the flagship, is now an available paid upgrade across the whole family: the CINEMA 60 Series 2, CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2 and CINEMA 70s Series 2 join the CINEMA 50 Series 2 in offering Dirac Live upgradeability, promising tighter bass, better timing accuracy and a noticeably larger listening sweet spot. The CINEMA 50 Series 2 alone continues to support the full Dirac ecosystem, including Bass Control and Active Room Treatment (ART).

Smarter Connectivity and Gaming Performance

Beyond raw sound quality, Marantz CINEMA Series 2 introduces a batch of usability upgrades. A future firmware update will add Low-Latency Bluetooth LE Audio for reduced wireless lag with compatible headphones and devices, alongside an upgraded HEOS platform for smoother streaming and expanded multiroom playback. The new Web Control 2.0 allows full system setup and control from a phone, tablet or computer without relying on a TV’s on-screen menus, while installers get HDMI Diagnostics 2.0 in CI Mode for automated HDMI verification, plus a new real-time Channel Level Monitoring view across every model.

Gaming gets attention too: all Marantz CINEMA Series 2 receivers add 1440p video pass-through with AMD FreeSync compatibility, complementing existing HDMI 2.1 support for smoother, tear-free performance on demanding PCs and consoles. The flagship CINEMA 50 Series 2 goes further still with an exclusive Dolby Atmos Channel Expander that puts every available speaker to work during channel-based Atmos playback, plus a new Center Bi-Amp Mode for clearer dialogue.

Design, Sustainability and the Lineup

Externally, Marantz CINEMA Series 2 keeps the brand’s familiar, award-winning look, with copper hardware and refined internal components underneath. All models are available in Black and Silver Gold (Black only in North America), and ship in redesigned, more sustainable packaging with less plastic and recyclable paper protection. The flagship CINEMA 50 Series 2 pairs nine amplifier channels with 11.4 channels of processing and the broadest feature set; the CINEMA 60 Series 2/60 DAB Series 2 bring the new DAC platform and Dirac Live Ready status to a wider audience; and the slimline CINEMA 70s Series 2 offers the same DAC and connectivity gains in a compact chassis. Every model retains full-channel preamp outputs for pairing with external power amps — for buyers comparing against Marantz’s step-up options, the Marantz CINEMA 30 AV amplifier remains the reference-grade choice above the CINEMA range.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
