British high-end audio specialist iFi audio has officially launched the iDSD Phantom, its most advanced desktop audio component to date. Announced on January 20, 2026, from the company’s headquarters in Southport, UK, the Phantom serves as the direct successor to the acclaimed Pro iDSD, condensing over a decade of digital and analogue expertise into a single, reference-grade device that combines an ultra-high-resolution network streamer, a premium DAC, and a potent headphone amplifier.
Designed as a true all-in-one centrepiece for discerning listeners and headphone enthusiasts, the iDSD Phantom promises to deliver iFi’s “most accomplished listening experience” yet. The unit advances significantly beyond its predecessor with a completely rebuilt streaming platform, enhanced conversion precision, substantially increased output capability, and expanded options for user customisation.
Next-gen ultra-resolution streaming engine
At the heart of the Phantom lies iFi’s next-generation ultra-resolution streaming engine, which supports native playback up to 768kHz PCM and DSD512. It integrates seamlessly with major services including Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and more, while also handling local libraries from NAS drives, external hard drives, and other networked sources. Galvanic isolation on Ethernet, S/PDIF, and AES/EBU inputs helps maintain signal purity by blocking electrical noise, and iFi’s Exclusive Modes further optimise performance by disabling unused processes during streaming. The companion iFi Nexis app has been updated for easier Wi-Fi connectivity and music queuing from anywhere in the home.
DSD2048 remastering
A standout innovation is the world’s first consumer implementation of DSD2048 remastering, powered by iFi’s custom Chrysopoeia FPGA engine. This technology applies proprietary algorithms to remaster incoming signals with extreme precision, reducing jitter and enabling direct DSD conversion without digital filtering or volume processing in the digital domain—preserving maximum purity. The DAC section features a quad Burr-Brown architecture (four DSD1793 chips in an interleaved configuration inspired by classic multi-bit designs), delivering exceptional low-level linearity and musicality. In remastered mode, the system achieves native DSD2048 decoding, pushing sampling rates to around 90 million times per second for dramatically reduced in-band distortion and unparalleled detail retrieval.
The amplification stage offers remarkable flexibility through real-time switchable output topologies. Users can select between:
- Dual-mono solid-state mode using discrete J-FETs for fast, precise, and low-distortion performance;
- Dual-mono tube mode with hand-matched NOS GE5670 valves for added warmth and smoothness;
- Tube+ mode, which boosts second-harmonic content by +6dB for an even richer, more vintage analogue character.
This redesigned output stage delivers a peak power output of 7,747mW, ensuring effortless drive for even the most demanding headphones.
Additional sound-shaping tools
Additional sound-shaping tools include K2HD Technology (developed in collaboration with JVCKENWOOD), which restores lost harmonics from digital processing to revive natural warmth and musicality. Available in standard K2 (preserving original resolution) and K2HD (upscaling to 192kHz/24-bit) modes, it emphasises time-domain accuracy for organic results. Fully analogue XBass Pro provides three levels of low-frequency contouring (10Hz, 20Hz, 40Hz) to compensate for bass limitations in open-back headphones, while XSpace Pro offers three spatial enhancement settings (30°, 60°, 90°) for a more speaker-like soundstage without traditional crossfeed compromises.
Digital filter options—such as Bit-Perfect, GTO, Transient Aligned, and Apodising—allow further fine-tuning of time-domain behaviour to suit individual preferences.
The iDSD Phantom features an evocative two-tone design and is positioned as the flagship of iFi’s lineup. It is now available for purchase directly from ifi-audio.com and select elite dealers worldwide, priced at £4,499 / $4,499 USD / €4,695 EUR / $6,999 CAD.
With its combination of cutting-edge streaming, studio-grade remastering, versatile analogue processing, and immense power, the iDSD Phantom aims to let listeners “vanish into the music” like never before, making it a compelling choice for high-end home audio setups centred around headphones or as a source for full systems.
