Hisense RGB Mini-LED TV technology

Hisense is putting its RGB Mini-LED technology in front of a global audience this summer, as the display tech that powers the brand’s flagship televisions also serves as the official Video Assistant Referee (VAR) display technology for FIFA World Cup 2026™. According to Hisense Canada, the same clarity, colour accuracy and motion handling that officials rely on for close calls is what the company is now bringing into the living room through its Hisense RGB Mini-LED television lineup, led by the flagship UR9SG series.

What Makes Hisense RGB Mini-LED Different

Unlike conventional Mini-LED panels that rely on a white or blue backlight, Hisense RGB Mini-LED technology uses independently controlled red, green and blue LEDs at the source to generate colour directly. Hisense says this approach enables purer colours, higher brightness and better contrast than traditional Mini-LED designs, without depending on a separate Quantum Dot film layer. The flagship UR9SG series built on this technology reaches up to 100% BT.2020 colour coverage and up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness, backed by more than a thousand local dimming zones for deep, controlled blacks.

Built for Sports and Fast Motion

“Sports puts a television’s picture quality to the test,” said Puneet Jain, Senior Director of Marketing and Ecommerce at Hisense Canada. “Fast movement, shifting light and fine details all matter when fans are following the play in real time. RGB Mini-LED technology is designed to support that experience by delivering bright, lifelike colour, strong contrast and smooth motion, helping viewers see the action with greater clarity from opening whistle to final buzzer.” On the UR9SG, that translates into a native 180Hz refresh rate and an Obsidian Panel finish that Hisense says delivers up to three times deeper blacks with reflections reduced to as little as 1.5–1.8%, useful for daytime matches watched in brighter rooms.

The UR9SG also pairs its Hisense RGB Mini-LED panel with the Hi-View AI Engine PRO processor, which Hisense says analyses each scene to optimize skin tones, contrast and motion in real time, along with an AI Sports Mode tuned specifically to reduce blur during fast-moving action and enhance crowd noise and commentary. Audio on the flagship model is tuned by Devialet, adding a further layer of polish to what Hisense positions as a stadium-like viewing experience for this summer’s tournament.

On Display in Vancouver

The same Hisense RGB Mini-LED technology used behind the scenes at FIFA World Cup 2026™ is currently on public display at Science World in Vancouver, as part of the Soccer and Technology from the FIFA Museum exhibition running until September 7. The exhibit includes the sideline VAR apparatus used by match officials and a replica of the tournament’s International Broadcast Centre VAR Room, giving visitors a closer look at how the display technology behind the review system also translates to consumer Hisense RGB Mini-LED televisions such as the UR9SG — a category where rival RGB-based panels, such as the Sony BRAVIA 9 II and BRAVIA 7 II True RGB TVs, are also pushing colour and contrast forward this year.

Pricing and availability

The Hisense UR9SG RGB Mini-LED series is available now through Hisense Canada’s retail network in 65″, 75″, 85″ and 100″ screen sizes; pricing varies by screen size and retailer. Full specifications and retailer details are available at hisense-canada.com.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
