Campfire Audio Takes Chimera Stateside for CanJam SoCal 2026

Campfire Audio Chimera

Campfire Audio is giving American audiophiles their first hands-on encounter with Chimera, the Portland-based manufacturer’s most ambitious in-ear monitor to date. Priced at $7,500, the Campfire Audio Chimera makes its U.S. public debut at CanJam SoCal 2026, running August 29 to 30 at the Irvine Marriott in Irvine, California, following earlier international showings in Singapore and London. The nine-driver flagship represents the most complex driver architecture Campfire Audio has ever packed into a single earpiece, and review units remain extremely limited ahead of the show.

A Nine-Driver Quad-Brid Flagship

What sets the Campfire Audio Chimera apart is its quad-brid approach: four distinct transducer technologies working together inside one shell. A 10mm bone conduction driver, embedded in a custom pocket within the housing, adds tactile low-frequency impact, while a 10mm True Glass dynamic driver delivers extended, textured bass with speed drawn from the resonant properties of the magnesium shell. A dual-diaphragm balanced armature and two additional high-frequency balanced armatures carry the midrange and upper registers, and four electrostatic supertweeters handle air, extension, and detail retrieval. In total, nine drivers per side make the Campfire Audio Chimera one of the densest driver counts in the company’s catalog, and Campfire Audio says the acoustic treatment was tuned specifically to let all four technologies blend rather than compete for the same frequencies.

Built and Fine-Tuned in Portland

Every Chimera is hand-assembled at Campfire Audio’s Portland, Oregon facility, where the company has built premium earphones for over a decade. The Campfire Audio Chimera’s shell is CNC electro-plated PVD magnesium, chosen for how it reinforces the bone conduction driver’s physicality, topped with a carbon fiber-brass damascus lid and finished with a machined brass nozzle. “Chimera’s development marks a new horizon for Campfire Audio,” said Ken Ball, the company’s founder and lead engineer. Standard 2-pin connectors keep the earphones compatible with the wider aftermarket cable market, including ALO Audio’s new Valence-6, a six-conductor cable with aluminum hardware and an adjustable slider, developed specifically alongside Chimera. Founded in 2015, Campfire Audio has built its reputation on hand-assembled in-ear monitors and unconventional hybrid driver designs, and the Campfire Audio Chimera is positioned as the clearest expression yet of that engineering philosophy.

Andromeda 10 and the Rest of the CanJam Lineup

Chimera will not be traveling alone. Campfire Audio is also using CanJam SoCal to showcase Andromeda 10, the latest evolution of one of its most recognizable designs, alongside a broader lineup available to demo, including Alien Brain, Clara, and Trifecta. Visitors to booth G6-7 will be able to compare the Campfire Audio Chimera directly against Andromeda 10 and hear firsthand how the quad-brid architecture differs from the brand’s more familiar balanced-armature designs. CanJam SoCal itself runs across two days at the Irvine Marriott, drawing enthusiasts from across the West Coast for hands-on listening sessions and dealer demos, and the Campfire Audio Chimera is expected to be one of the more closely watched debuts on the show floor given its limited international showings so far.

Pricing and availability

The Campfire Audio Chimera is priced at $7,500 and is offered in Black and Gold finishes; both are currently listed as sold out at retail due to strong early demand, with new orders shipping as production allows. Full specifications and ordering details are available on the official Campfire Audio product page. CanJam SoCal 2026 takes place August 29 to 30 at the Irvine Marriott, 18000 Von Karman Avenue, Irvine, California, with Campfire Audio at booth G6-7.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
