Audioblock has introduced the Block Opus L Opus S pair, two new active loudspeakers the German manufacturer calls “Smart Display Speakers.” Rather than tucking a small status screen into a corner of the cabinet, Audioblock has built a 19-inch round LCD display into the center of each speaker’s circular grille, using it to show lyrics, photos and video alongside the usual playback information.
Both models sit on slender wooden legs, pair a full three-way driver array with WLAN and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, and are available now in black or champagne finishes. The Block Opus L Opus S launch marks Audioblock’s most design-forward release to date, aimed squarely at buyers who want a genuine hi-fi speaker that also looks intentional sitting in the open in a living room.
The Block Opus L Opus S Display: A 19-Inch Screen at the Center
The round display is the defining feature of the series rather than a secondary add-on. Beyond song titles and lyrics, it can mirror a connected smartphone’s screen to show photos and video, turning the speaker into a small living-room display when music isn’t playing. Control runs through Audioblock’s HiSounds app for iOS and Android, and both speakers connect over WLAN or Bluetooth 5.4.
Streaming support covers UPnP/DLNA for local network sources, Spotify Connect, Amazon Music and Deezer, plus internet radio via vTuner, with the UNDOK protocol handling multiroom playback across compatible devices. Few multiroom speakers in this price range pair that level of streaming flexibility with a display this large, which is part of what makes the Block Opus L Opus S concept distinct from a conventional wireless speaker.
Two Sizes, One Three-Way Concept
Both speakers share a three-way layout built around a 10-inch woofer, two 4-inch midrange drivers and two 2-inch tweeters, but scale the amplifier power to match their size. The Opus S runs a 100W woofer amp with 25W per midrange driver and 10W per tweeter for 170W total, in a 630 x 820 x 220 mm cabinet weighing about 18kg.
The larger Opus L steps up to a 120W woofer amp, 30W per midrange driver and 20W per tweeter for 220W total, in a 730 x 900 x 260 mm cabinet weighing about 21kg. Audioblock has also announced a true-wireless-stereo pairing mode that will let two identical Opus units work together as a stereo pair, though the feature is not yet live and will arrive in a later software update. Once available, that pairing mode should let owners run two Opus S or two Opus L units as a stereo pair for wider imaging than a single unit can produce on its own.
The tripod-style wooden legs and circular grille give the Block Opus L Opus S series a mid-century, furniture-like presence that sets it apart from typical soundbar-style multiroom speakers, positioning the pair as a design object for the living room as much as a sound system.
