AudioControl has introduced the APR-16 Immersive Sound Processor, the flagship preamp/processor in its new Hyperion series, designed specifically for professional AV integrators and high-end home cinema installations. Launched as part of a comprehensive lineup developed under AudioControl’s partnership with AVPro Global, the APR-16 delivers state-of-the-art immersive audio processing with exceptional flexibility, precision, and future-ready connectivity.
Unveiled at ISE 2025 and further showcased at CEDIA Expo 2025, the APR-16 represents a ground-up redesign that fuses AudioControl’s decades of audio expertise with advanced video and networking technologies from AVPro. It targets custom installers seeking uncompromising performance in dedicated theaters, supporting up to 16 channels of decoding and upmixing for formats including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The processor exceeds all 21 technical benchmarks of the CEDIA/CTA-RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice, earning HAA certification for scientifically validated acoustic precision and high-fidelity reproduction.
Dirac ART
Central to the APR-16’s appeal is its full integration of Dirac Live technologies, including Dirac Live Room Correction, Dirac Live Bass Control, and Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART). These licensed tools enable real-time optimization of the listening environment, minimizing room-induced distortions, tightening bass response across multiple subwoofers, and delivering spatially accurate, immersive playback. Professional calibrators can purchase and activate specific Dirac modules to tailor performance to individual systems and preferences.
ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32-bit DACs
Audio performance is anchored by premium ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M 32-bit DACs, offering ultra-low distortion (THD+N <0.0002%), exceptional dynamic range (+130 dB), and a flat frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±0.05 dB). The high-performance ARM-based DSP architecture handles sampling rates up to 24-bit/192 kHz, ensuring transparent signal paths and detailed, natural sound reproduction.
HDMI connectivity
Connectivity emphasizes professional-grade reliability and versatility. The APR-16 features 7 HDMI 2.1 inputs and 1 HDMI output (with eARC), supporting full 48 Gbps bandwidth, 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz resolutions, HDCP 2.3, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, and VRR for pixel-accurate, unmodified video passthrough. It includes ISF certification for studio-grade image fidelity. Analog inputs comprise 2 stereo unbalanced RCA, 1 stereo balanced XLR, plus optical and coaxial digital options, while outputs provide 16 assignable unbalanced RCA and 16 assignable balanced XLR channels for flexible system configurations—including support for complex layouts with multiple subwoofers.
Dante/AES67 pro features
Additional pro features include Dante/AES67 networked audio compatibility for distributed systems, robust EDID and HDCP management, RS-232 and TCP/IP Ethernet control (with 4 RJ45 ports), 12V trigger I/O, and an IR input. Users benefit from an intuitive web-based GUI accessible on any device, a 7-inch front-panel LCD touchscreen, an included IR remote, and cloud-based firmware updates for ongoing enhancements.
Housed in a 3U rack-mountable chassis (dimensions approximately 17.75″ x 17.25″ x 5.25″ without accessories; weight 18.7 lbs), the APR-16 operates on a universal 100-240V power supply with low consumption (<50W max load). It positions itself as a scalable foundation for bespoke home theaters, allowing integrators to create limitless routing and configurations without preset limitations.
As the first Hyperion model to fully leverage Dirac ART, the APR-16 sets a new standard for next-generation immersive audio in the custom installation market. Availability began in Q4 2025 through authorized AudioControl dealers and professional AV channels, with the processor poised to elevate reference-level cinematic experiences for discerning clients worldwide.
