Audio-Technica has introduced its new flagship moving-coil phono cartridge, the AT-MCD1, making its world debut at HIGH END Vienna 2026. This premium model represents the pinnacle of the brand’s over six decades of Japanese audio engineering and craftsmanship.
Ultimate Precision from Advanced Diamond Technology
The AT-MCD1 builds upon the groundbreaking one-piece diamond cantilever and stylus design introduced in the 60th anniversary AT-MC2022, with further refinements for even greater detail, speed, and fluidity. At its heart is an integrated square diamond cantilever (0.22 mm) and stylus tip, manufactured using the advanced CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) method. This laboratory-grown diamond offers exceptional uniformity and superior material properties compared to natural diamond, enabling ultra-fast transient response and outstanding clarity.
The cartridge also features a newly developed Shibata stylus with a finer curvature (R2.7 × r0.08 mil), allowing it to trace even the most complex groove modulations with remarkable accuracy. The result is exceptional focus on vocals, tight and controlled bass, and refined, fatigue-free high frequencies.
Engineering Excellence
Key technical features of the AT-MCD1 include:
- One-piece diamond cantilever and stylus for minimal signal loss and maximum energy transfer
- Lightweight 0.22 mm square diamond cantilever for superior speed and high-frequency refinement
- New-generation Shibata stylus for enhanced groove tracing and micro-detail retrieval
- Dual moving-coil generator with high channel separation and wide frequency response
- Hybrid titanium, aluminum, and elastomer body structure for resonance suppression
- High-efficiency magnetic circuit with increased flux density for higher output
- PCOCC coils and thick gold-plated terminal pins for pure signal transmission
- Precision-machined titanium body combining low mass with exceptional rigidity
- Ion-plated deep black finish with hand-polished craftsmanship
Each AT-MCD1 is meticulously hand-finished in Japan, individually engraved with a serial number, and presented in a luxurious cherry wood presentation box.
