MartinLogan has launched the Motion Discrete Cinema Series, a new line of low-profile 3-channel soundbars and matching LCR speakers designed to close the gap between compact soundbars and full-size home theater speakers. The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema Series soundbars come in three sizes tied directly to today’s most popular display sizes, so that a 65, 75 or 85-inch TV gets a soundstage that scales with the screen rather than an undersized bar bolted underneath it.
The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema Series: Soundbars Scaled to Your Screen
Rather than offering a single soundbar for every room, MartinLogan built three passive models in the Discrete Cinema Series, each with a driver count matched to a specific screen class. The Soundbar 65 uses a Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter and dual woofers per channel in a single enclosure that packs left, center and right channels together. The Soundbar 75 steps up the driver count across all three channels, doubling the center-channel woofers for a broader, more dynamic soundstage, while the flagship Soundbar 85 uses a 15-driver array split across its three channels for the most output and detail in the range. All three remain passive designs, so they run off an existing AV receiver or external amplifier rather than needing a built-in amp section.

Shared Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeters and Aluminum Extrusions
Every model in the MartinLogan Discrete Cinema Series, soundbars and LCR speakers alike, shares the same acoustic building blocks: a Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) with a Folded Motion Waveguide, paired with 4-inch woven fiberglass woofers using 1.5-inch voice coils. MartinLogan Product Manager Andrew Lindsey says the extruded aluminum chassis was key to fitting a full-size FMT and an application-optimized waveguide into such a thin enclosure, something speakers this slim don’t typically have room for. The series is designed to handle mid and high frequencies specifically, with MartinLogan expecting at least one dedicated subwoofer, such as the MartinLogan Dynamo series, to cover the deep bass in any Discrete Cinema-based system.

Built for Custom Installers
Every MartinLogan Discrete Cinema Series unit ships with an integrated wall bracket allowing granular leveling and micro-adjustments, useful when wall studs don’t line up cleanly. An optional television bracket attaches directly to a display’s frame or VESA mount so the soundbar moves with an articulating TV, and recessed channels in the aluminum chassis hide all wiring for a clean finish. Toolless Phoenix-style pre-wire terminals let integrators secure wiring before the enclosure goes on the wall, and the LCR models can also double as vertical mains, horizontal centers or low-profile surrounds for more flexible system design.
