The PS Audio PMG S200 Stereo power amplifier

PS Audio has opened up its PMG Signature line with the PS Audio PMG S200, a stereo power amplifier that brings the same low-feedback topology found throughout the Signature Series into the brand’s most accessible chassis yet. Designed by Darren Myers and engineered by Bob Stadtherr, the S200 is hand-built in Boulder, Colorado, and priced at $7,999. It is the smallest and least expensive amplifier in the range, but PS Audio positions it as a genuine reference product rather than a scaled-down introduction to the brand.

Where the PMG Signature Journey Begins

PS Audio positions the PMG S200 as the entry point into the PMG Signature Series, but the company is careful to note it isn’t a stripped-down design. The PS Audio PMG S200 runs the full Signature topology – the same low-feedback circuit and state-of-the-art active power supply architecture used throughout the range – delivering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, doubling cleanly to 200 watts into 4 ohms. Bandwidth extends beyond 500 kHz and slew rate beyond 200 volts per microsecond, the same figures PS Audio quotes for its larger PMG Signature amplifiers.

10 Watts of Class A Bias, Doubled Down for Real Rooms

The PS Audio PMG S200 dedicates 10 watts of pure Class A bias to each channel – more, in fact, than the S200 needs to cover roughly 20% of typical listening levels, according to PS Audio. That window matters most in the quiet, low-level passages where the ear is most revealing and crossover artifacts would otherwise be most audible.

PS Audio pitches the S200 at efficient and moderately demanding loudspeakers – bookshelf monitors, stand-mounts and full-sized floorstanders – in small to medium rooms, framing it as the amplifier a great many listeners with sensible speakers in a dedicated space will never need to upgrade from.

That framing matters for a Signature-series product: PS Audio is explicit that nothing in the S200’s signal path was simplified purely to reach a lower price point, and the same low-feedback design philosophy that defines the flagship monoblocks carries through unchanged.

An Active Power Supply Doing the Heavy Lifting

Every stereo amplifier shares one power supply between two channels, which is traditionally why monoblocks have been considered the purer choice: a current demand from one channel can drag a passive supply down and disturb the other. PS Audio built the PMG S200 around a state-of-the-art active power supply that holds its output stiffer under load, so a transient on one channel barely touches the other. Combined with a layout – grounding, board placement, mechanical structure – engineered to keep the two channels electrically apart, PS Audio says channel separation on the S200 approaches that of a true monoblock pair, at a fraction of the footprint.

Pricing and availability

The PS Audio PMG S200 is available now, priced at $7,999 in silver or black finish, direct from PS Audio and through authorized dealers, including Aspera Audio in Belgium. PS Audio is also offering trade-in credit of up to $2,500 against an existing PS Audio amplifier for buyers upgrading to the S200.

Key specifications

  • Power output: 100W/ch into 8Ω, 200W/ch into 4Ω (1kHz, <1% THD)
  • Class A bias: 10W per channel into 8Ω
  • Bandwidth: >500 kHz
  • Slew rate: >200V/µS
  • THD: <0.002% typical (20Hz-20kHz, 1W/8Ω)
  • Damping factor: >240 at 8Ω (20Hz-1kHz)
  • Inputs: 1 pair RCA (single-ended), 1 pair XLR (balanced)
  • Weight: 56.2 lbs / 25.5 kg
  • Price: $7,999 (silver or black finish)

His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
