Israeli high-end audio specialist Morel has expanded its acclaimed Sopran series with the new Sopran 622, a two-way bookshelf loudspeaker that brings the brand’s signature emotional sound and innovative design to more compact listening spaces. Priced at approximately $5,999 per pair, the Sopran 622 distills the sonic DNA of Morel’s iconic Fat Lady flagship into a standmount format, offering discerning audiophiles breathtaking dynamics, clarity, and realism without requiring the floorspace of larger models.
The Sopran series, inspired by the curvaceous aesthetics and acoustic principles of the legendary Fat Lady, emphasizes handcrafted precision and advanced driver technologies. The 622 model features a rear-ported bass-reflex enclosure with CNC-machined internal bracing to minimize resonances and coloration. Its cabinet design incorporates delicate curves and a modern, understated profile that not only enhances visual appeal but also contributes to superior rigidity and diffraction control.
Handcrafted transducers
At the heart of the Sopran 622 are Morel’s proprietary handcrafted transducers. The system employs a high-performance woofer paired with the company’s renowned soft-dome tweeter, delivering a frequency response extending down to around 45 Hz with tight, controlled bass reproduction. The crossover is set at 2,200 Hz, ensuring seamless integration between drivers for a cohesive and immersive soundstage. With a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the speaker is designed to pair well with high-quality amplification, revealing nuanced details, powerful dynamics, and a tactile sense of live performance.
Harmonic and emotional nuance
Morel describes the listening experience with the Sopran 622 as one that captures every harmonic and emotional nuance, transporting listeners to the heart of the music. The speaker excels in rendering delicate textures alongside impactful transients, making it equally suited to intimate jazz sessions or full-scale orchestral works. Available in a range of premium painted and natural veneer finishes—with custom color options upon request—the 622 seamlessly integrates into sophisticated home environments.
Sopran lineup
The Sopran lineup also includes the floorstanding Sopran 934 ($14,999/pair) and Sopran 634 ($11,999/pair), along with forthcoming center channel and subwoofer options for complete home theater systems. The 622 stands out as the series’ bookshelf entry, providing flagship-level performance in a more accessible form factor ideal for smaller rooms or nearfield setups.
With over 45 years of in-house engineering expertise, Morel continues to push boundaries in driver technology and cabinet design, earning accolades for products that blend innovation with musicality. The Sopran 622 upholds this tradition, offering audiophiles an engaging and refined option in the competitive high-end bookshelf category.
