Chinese digital audio specialist Matrix Audio has launched the Matrix Audio SU-1, a USB isolation switcher built to clean up the USB chain in multi-source hi-fi systems. The SU-1 combines source switching, galvanic isolation and a dedicated linear power supply in a single compact chassis, aimed at listeners juggling more than one digital source into the same DAC.
The Matrix Audio SU-1 tackles ground loops and USB noise
Two USB Type-B inputs and one USB Type-C input let the Matrix Audio SU-1 stay permanently connected to several sources at once — a streamer, a computer and a digital transport, for example — without constant plugging and unplugging. A single front-panel button handles switching: a short press cycles through the three inputs, while a long press toggles between the two USB Type-A outputs, so one unit can feed two separate DACs.
At the core of the Matrix Audio SU-1 sits a professional-grade digital isolation chip that physically breaks the electrical connection between data, power and ground lines at both ends of the USB link. Matrix Audio says this removes ground loop noise and high-frequency interference while also guarding connected equipment against surges, with a fully encapsulated toroidal transformer linear supply providing a 5V/1000mA ultra-low-noise output and real-time overcurrent and short-circuit protection for everything downstream.
Built for long cable runs
Matrix Audio has also optimized the SU-1’s USB transmission impedance for longer cable runs than USB audio gear typically tolerates: a single side can run up to 4 metres, with combined input and output cabling reaching up to 8 metres without data attenuation or packet loss. That gives owners more freedom to separate sources and DACs around a rack or living room rather than forcing everything into a single stack.
